Some of those stuns are almost nessarry such as when you are moving to stack behind him. Of course you could try to coordinate a stack with a df that they would not run up until after eurruptions but gl in getting a df pug to do that

Not a single eruption is necessary to stun. However, the real main merit to stunning is that it allows more uninterrupted DPS but stunning for survival? Not necessary. I will give you that it's a bit of a headache to coordinate a really simple strategy to avoid the eruptions in a DF pug though.

He won't use Eruption before the Vulcan Burst at 80% or so (which is normally done right after an Incinerate - you'll see two in a row if your dps is decent).

After each Eruption, you have time for Fast Blade => Savage Blade => Rage of Halone, along with your Circle of Scorn and Spirits Within. Then the Eruption window opens and you wait.

Other fixed patterns to notice in the fight are

Pre-nail: Radiant Plume > Eruption > Radiant Plume
Post-nail: Radiant Plume > Radiant Plume > Eruption > Radiant Plume

After each Eruption (or during Radiant Plume/Incinerate casts), DPS to your heart's content. Then get ready ...

Solo tank as a PLD and just know the god damn rotation for jeeezus christ! The only problem I see here is that you keep on going into the same old party that uses two tanks strategy in an ifrit HM fight or DF. If you want to be a PLD, then play it to its full potential. If you get in the same party that uses the same mechanic, no need to complain or blame the way SE made PLD.

Ifrit's a mechanics fight. When done right, it is boring. It is also relatively quick.

Hang in there, champ. Garuda HM is much more exciting for you.

My main complaint with being a stunbot is that it is an unrewarding mechanic of gameplay. Yes, you sit there and auto-attack, maybe throw in a couple of Circle of Scorns for some DoT's, Fracture if you have it. Yes, all you need to do is know Ifrit's attack patterns, and use Stun when he's about to use Eruption. Yes, people's "survival" are hanging on that stun, and you'll get ragged at for missing it - god bless if you have poor latency like me.

This is my first WoW-like MMO experience, and I think it's stupid that I spend so much time running dungeons, learning how to pull aggro, learning how to mark targets, trying my best to keep aggro away from all my allies.Pre-50, the dungeons were more fun - you had quirky mechanics to play against like Qarn's Teratotaur (Doom + Final Sting), Stone Vigil's bosses were all interesing as well - between the cannonball shots out of the window, and avoiding the last boss' flying ice breath attack, but since I hit 50 this weekend, I've not done much except Castrum speed runs and Ifrit HM fights. I'd say the only interesting Lv50 dungeon fight I've done is Amdapor Keep, and running AK is the sole reason I decided to farm an Ifrit Blade, because my aggro with a Lv50 GC weapon cannot keep up with FC mates who are using Relic +1 weapons.

And here's what I personally think about them - it's literally quite stupid that now people are avoiding creeps, you don't take your time to mark mobs anymore, and now that it's almost always 2 tanks per battle, everyone is now fighting to be main tank. It was a sudden change for me, and now I find that I should just be content being the off-tank, which I don't really enjoy playing. A lot of the times, I just feel like I'm following someone else, and I don't need to do anything except pull away the Reaper on the 2nd boss, pull away the Magitek Vanguard on the 3rd boss, and then pull away the Colossus on the final boss when they spawn - what I do with them then is not important. I don't think I'd ever find someone who'd be willing to sit through an hour of Castrum when it's doable in less than 30 minutes, so I will have to go with the flow and enjoy it for what it is.

I've run Ifrit HM something like 15 times over the weekend, and got my Ifrit Blade yesterday too - thankfully, in those 15 fights, I have only been asked to off-tank once. When I go in I usually ask politely if I can be the main tank, or run with FC mates. I won't shoot down people who request to sit there and stunbot, I just feel sorry for them if they were like me and spent a lot of time learning how to properly play a tank. Go ahead and undermine my efforts just because it's my first MMO experience, but it doesn't change the fact that I think it's a stupid and unrewarding role to play.

From what I understand, stunning Eruption also builds the Limit Break bar quite fast. It allows you to hit Level 3 LB if you have a Black Mage/Summoner for when the nails appear.

No one enjoys stun duty. No one. I wouldn't mind not seeing stuns at all in an MMO. You either have one person stuck on stun duty or you have a group of people coordinating stun duty. No one's having any fun watching cast bars.

The interrupter is one of the most important positions. Nearly all wipes are because the person sucked at interrupting eruptions.

All the eruptions are in a pattern. Once you know the pattern, you're free to attack in between without fear of missing an eruption. You don't have to just auto attack. Auto attack is for people who don't know the pattern.

At the start of the battle, eruptions won't start until Ifrit does the knock back attack. He starts it around 90% life

From then on, he'll do an eruption immediately after returning from his dash. You have to be quick to interrupt this one. After about 30 seconds, he'll do his second eruption before jumping away to do his dash attack.

Once he's at 75% life, he'll say something and enter a new phase. He'll erupt shortly after returning from his dash and erupt again after the first plume.

At 50% life, he summons the nails. He erupts shortly after unleashing them and again when it's about to end. AFter the first eruption, you're able to attack the nails for a bit before needing to return for the second eruption.

For the last phase, he erupts after the second plume and doesn't erupt again until he uses the knock back attack. You can spend most of this phase attacking.

Why are people farming primals for weapons other than conmpletion?

Get gc weapon, get relic, go die in turn 5. See you in 2.1.

If you want to complain about a time sink for wepaons, complain about the fact that every relic takes 4.5-5 hours in castrum (longer than the rest of the quest combined).

After first relic, every subsequent relic should cost 0 or 300 stones (easily done by having the quenching oil cost 300 and require 3 for first relic and only 1 for later). I personally love the relic quest other than that, it is a great series of fights to teach you a class so that by the time you have relic you know enough about your class to go into coil (assuming you have the gear). Grinding cm teaches me nothing (except that tis possible to use a summoner to tank cm and go in as 1 whm / 7 dps).

Also: 1.0 was worse. Way worse. At least gc weapons are an option now (which they weren't for the bulk of 1.0 when ifrit weapons mattered).

I do think they should put in a token system though, just cus its inconsistent with other content--I'd have my titan bow if this was in.
