    Combos

    Hiya

I'm getting introduce to combos in battle and I was wondering how they work. When i'm in a battle, the outline of the skills available for combos change to a dotted line. So, what are the condition or sequence of action for a skill to be outlined that way?

Is it random, is it predetermined by combo sequence. If so, what are these combo sequence?? Do I have to discover them?? Is there a list of combos available to learn?

    Thx for the insight

If an action is part of a combo (except for the trigger action), it will state in the tooltip what the trigger is and what the effect of the combo will be. Just mouse over it and you'll see. There's a Tutorial entry on it too, so check out the Active Help menu.

The tooltips for the actions will include the information on combo effects. For example, the tooltip for Skull Sunder tells you:

    Combo Action: Heavy Swing
    Combo Potency: 200

That tells you that using Heavy Swing first will turn Skull Sunder into a combo, with increased potency as the combo effect.

Some classes have it a little different. PGL/MNK, for example, has abilities that change the fighting stance/form they're in, and abilities that can only be used from one specific form. They get the dotted lines for abilities that are usable in their current form.

As an Archer, you have things like Heavy Shot. The tooltip tells you there's a 20% chance that your next Straight Shot will deal critical damage (if you use it within the duration, 10s). That's what causes the dotted lines around Straight Shot.

In the help text popup for a skill you should see a combo action listed, which is the lead-in for a combo. I.e. Savage Blade lists Fast Blade as a combo action, so performing Fast Blade followed by Savage Blade results in a combo.

This dotted line highlight on skills also occurs when a random-chance effect is triggered. The Archer trait Heavier Shot has a chance to cause Straight Shot to deal critical damage, and when this chance occurs, Straight Shot is highlighted. This does not imply that these two are combo actions, only that one has a limited time effect on the other.

So if I understand well when a pre-condition is satistied, you get the dotted line for a limited time for a specific action to occur

Combos are sequence of action determined by the skill (if you did the preceding action stated in the skill tool tip)

    Thx fo the info

Also, some abilities are triggered by outside factor such as the condition of the target, for example the archer's Misery's End, which you can only use when the target is below 20% health (at which point it gets the dotted line).
