Can't decide if I wanna play GLD or THM

I'd like to take a shot at tanking in this game. I've enjoyed it in other games and it's really frustrating to get into a group for a dungeon only to find that the tank is terrible, so being the tank myself would eliminate that possibility (in my eyes at the very least).

OTOH I like being flashy and blowing shit up too.

Both classes seem pretty simplistic to play. THM looks outright boring until you get your proc traits later on, but I've seen videos of GLDs literally doing an entire boss only using RoH combo and a couple defensive cooldowns.

    Why not play both?

I main PLD but I also lvl'd DRG, WAR, and BLM in 1.0 so I could be a DD as well.

Cause lets be honest, playing the same class all the time is just boring.

True. I guess I meant I wasn't sure which to play first.

GLD would probably be the better one to take up first. I'm doing this on a new character (really just want to play a different race) and I've heard PLDs aren't much wanted for things like FATE parties, and I'd have all the quests and dungeons to do while leveling up. Being a tank would be easier for those too due to queue times (I've heard it's hard even for a tank or healer to get a group for Ifrit during the story because the initial rush is over and there's no need for anyone to fight him more than once).

gld/pld is amazingly fun but u need to have ran the dungeons a few times to master the mechanics, i.e. if u do the main story on gld/pld and just to the fights once, you wont be familiat with it, therefore you wont be dong the best you could, and hence you wont enjoy it as much.

logically i advise lvling thm/blm via main story quests and, upon unlocking the dungeons, use gld/pld to run it, and level up using dungeons only. it may sound 'grindy' but trust me its heaps of fun, and i dont agree with the initial rush being over. im in the process of lvling gld and mrd now and run dungeons only. i literally get instant queues, and every run there was someone new to them.

    good luck!

I'd do gld first simply because you'll have far less wait for all of your story dungeons

That's a good point. If I leveled THM first I could level GLD next mostly through dungeon runs. Then I'd be able to do story/side quests on my THM instead of having to rely a lot on FATEs.

just level them concurrently, and keep your pld up to date all the time, so you could do ur story instances on pld and everything else on blm - no waiting time.
