WOW! Gifthorse isn't just another Troll he is actually capable of holding intellectual conversation of some normalcy. The sun will shine a little brighter today!

I don't think gifthorse is a troll. Well, sometimes he puts on plates some reasonable concerns and some ideas here and there. But sometmes his critics seem out of contest, like in this case. I feel he wants really to make this game great.. but he amplifies too much the real concerns often.![]()
Most of the time he is the first unnamed player with no sig or anything who will just slam everyone single persons thread that I have read just about. I thought he was Grade A Troll from day one of the forums and I am actually surprised to see a post like this from him. (Well the first time I seen one of his posts)
lol U.
Did you get to experience a quest hub in the secret test server or something?
Oh wait, there was more..
Well, as much as I hate having to admit it, its actually a fair discussion.
I'm not going to assume that Quest Hubs are just going to be like the quests we have now, but in open field. There has to be something different about these quests.
We just really don't know until we see it for ourselves, otherwise, you are just another Shiyo.

While that looks like an awesome idea, there is one amazing flaw with it. That awesome new content and those amazing new challenges? Yeah they don't exist yet. Those islands you could sail to? They don't exist yet. Horse before the carriage, etc etc. The player created boats, companies, etc are still in development, they are not being released as of right now because there is nothing to do with them. I'm sure we'd all have loads of fun grinding DoH classes to make our awesome ships that get to sit there for months on end before there's anything to actually do with them.
And honestly as much as they're fighting the horrible coding and game engine/servers just to implement a frichen mailbox, I wouldn't expect to see them anytime within the next 6 months.
How to make group crafting, such as cake, work?Originally Posted by Kurokikaze
Honestly... What the fuck are you going to do if you build a boat or a cake if theres absolutely not way to use it?
A Cake could be used to enhance Company stats/traits for everyone in the Company (kinda like a glorified temporary Trophy). To take it a step further the cake could slowly diminish over time from everyone reaping the benefits (to which more cake would need to be group crafted).
Scenario: Company A members crafted a Beef Cake. Company members now receive +10% to STR/DEX/VIT/HP while Cake is at 100%.
Company B has a crafted Chocolate Cake. Members receive +10% to INT/MND/PIE/MP.
How else could it work outside of being the same thing as Food?
(not trying to troll, i've just wondered about this since SE first showed us the Cake/Boat from Beta)
I think quest hubs are going to be a two-way thing. First, they're going to be what everyone thinks - meeting places/quests outside of cities/eye candy. But I think they are going to serve another major purpose. If SE continues to add quest hubs they can use them to cover up the copy/pasted terrain and make the game world look more interesting in a general sense. Most MMOs copy/paste just as much as SE did with FFXIV, only difference is SE sucked at covering it up with foilage and structures.
If they continue to add these quest hubs with patches over time, Eorzea will look a lot less copy/pasted in the future and a lot more unique/interesting/varied.
e: This method is probably a lot easier than just redoing entire zones via a "cataclysm" of sorts.
since sidequest are hardly an exping method, doubt quest hubs will never be an exping groud for quests
depending on whether you can view it, or create different looking boats, that in and of it self is content. many crafters would like nothing more than to create a building. While that looks like an awesome idea, there is one amazing flaw with it. Imagine if companies had guild housing, that you completely create, you get on your boat, go to an island, and you create houses, rooms, stores etc. just that alone would be considered content to many people
"Public areas" being places like Aetherytes, Hamlets and now Hubs i think? IMO, i think Hub-quests will differ from side-quests/tasks and be more intended for leveling/progression.Originally Posted by Yoshi-P 9th Letter
In this way, we’re going to gradually increase the number of public areas with quest hubs.
