As a healer how do you help under geared tanks?

It seems that there is a great gear disparity between tanks. It was really apparent when I was running nothing but brayflox normal mode. I see level 32 tanks. Some can take 3 hits and be down only 30% health (i.e. 70% remaining), and others take 3 hits and they are like at 10% health. It makes a world of difference, because I can heal them all I want, but ones that take so much damage means I run out of MP much sooner and then we are all dead. I get them protect, but I am still working on getting stoneskin. But it really does matter which dungeon, so in some case stoneskin is going be denied because of level sync. So is there a solution? Or is it mathematically impossible.

I would say keep adlo up all the time on the tank, but I'm not sure if it's available at that point due to level sync.

Some tanks do wear DPS gear on low lvl dungeons (or LNC/DRG gear). For me personally, I cycle dps/heal depending on how hard they take damage. Some tanks require full time heal but normally on those cases, I'm fine as long as I time my heals properly instead of spamming it. If you notice they're taking a lot more damage than they should have, maybe ask them to also cycle defensive abilities when they're pulling more than 2-3 mobs.

Some spells from other party members also can help, like sleep for WHM and if you got BLM in a group, they can help sleep mobs as well. For SCH, you shouldn't have to worry about mana too much as long as you keep cycling aetherflow/energy drain.

Say, tank get some new gear !

I say this because sometimes a new tank doesn't realise how much pressure he is putting on the healer, making him aware of that in a nice way will probably make him re-evaluate his gear choices.

If I was using my SCH, I could give that a try, but I don't think it is available/allowed at level 32.

Additionally, I was using my CNJ/WHM trying to get to 34 to unlock stoneskin, so that was not an option. I did apply "eye-for-eye", but that has such a long cooldown.

BTW are tanks supposed to dodge AOE? I can't esuna them fast enough and still heal, when they stand in stuff can picks up 3 stacks of poison.

Tanks should be dodging AoE like any other class in the game. Matter of fact, it's almost MORE important for them to, since most AoE's directed at a tank will often be stronger, frontal cleaves.

The problem you mention is actually a disparity in the gear. Most tanks that are newer go into these dungons wearing level 20-30 gear for a level 32 dungoun. So when they go in, the have (maybe) 300 more HP than an i90 that has been level synched down to 32.

Obvious AoE's they should, some debuffs though are instant and aren't always noticeable or avoidable.

Generally if a tank is over 50% I will dispell first then heal, if he is below I will heal first then dispell, poison isn't really a killer, paralyze on the other hand.

If your tanks are under geared pre-50 instances you need to utilize tools that generally aren't utilized:

-If there's a summoner in the group, have them off tank adds with Titan. Consider having them tanks bosses too. Titan will take less damage than an under geared tank, pulls plenty of threat, and then the summoner can help heal Titan easier than they can help heal the tank.

-Consider using sleep/repose on trash mobs that put a large dent in your tank.

-Consider using kite methods, most bosses can be kited by the tank to take considerably less damage.

For Aiatar specifically, he has a melee instant called Salivious Snap that applies a poison stack. The frontal poison breath AoE though, that the tank should dodge - and you'll notice if they don't, it hits them for more than half their health easily.

Also, antidotes work for Aiatar's poison now.

Sleeping mobs is a huge help in lower level dungeons. Sleep 2 out of 3 mobs and you just reduced the damage your tank is taking by 2/3. Pretty awesome damage mitigation right there.
