When you have to make macros to work around the pet system, it is a -BAD- system that should be improved upon and not band-aid'd. We want a proper pet control system, not a bargain bin version of other good systems.

If you want to see how a pet system should work, look at WoW or at SWTOR's. Those are pet and/or companion control systems done right and I (most likely others as well) want a system that is similar; Especially since the system we have is very much like those, except very badly designed.

It shouldn't even be an issue in the first place
I should be able to prevent my pet from taking any action without having to dimiss it and should be able to reliably control it and the use of its special skills and should have my orders take priority over finishing whatever it is currently doing

    but I can't

    To answer your question, though

Steady interrupts skill use, all the fairy skills bar regen are instant cast, and ordered skills are not used until the current action is finished e.g. moving somewhere or using embrace(which despite being interrupted when the steady order is given is not prevented while under it).

The end result is that you have a very small window for giving the steady order, and the timing for the opening of that window is dependent on if the fairy is doing anything or is under any effects that modify the casting time. If the steady order comes a split second too soon it interrupts regen, and it might end up on cooldown anyways if she's already finished casting it but hasn't finished the animation for using it. If it comes a split second too late, she's already used her other skills.
In short, you're going to have trouble timing it just right even with a macro, and if she's doing anything at all or is under anything affecting the cast time it will always miss the window.

The only time I can reliably have her use one skill and one skill only is when she or a party member is injured enough for her AI to start using embrace as soon as the skill is finished

There are quite many nice suggestions, of how the A.I would be better, and well, in my opnion, the sic/obey should just be replaced with one button to toogle automatic/manual skill usage of pet's (click it, turns on "Automatic" -> lights up and the pet does the skills automatically, determined by A.I. Click once again, sets the button on "Manual" -> light turns off, and pet will not do anything, if the player doesn't execute any of the pet's skills.

I came up with that just now, so there is room for adjusting, and changes.

People need to remember that a healer's job isn't to heal HP
but rather to prevent HP from reaching 0

Omg yes! I've been looking at that since I started as Smn/Sch. These changed would be awesome! And much appreciated, useful, and will allow us to play our classes better.

I'll just be glad I can finally stop using synapse to do what the dumb pet should do in the first place (that is if they fix the current bugs and not break something else).

To be honest, all I want for christmas is a pet system that actually works. In this current trash version, it is more a frustration to micromanage the damn fairy then it is to heal. No it isn't fun to play and get bitched at because I didn't hit steady fast enough after using a pet skill and they blow all their cd's before I could stop them. No it isn't fun to have the frustration that is the pet system than it is to actually do my job. I play this game to have fun, and when I'm having more frustration form my fairy than the actual game content, there is a problem. It should be the other way around, that way its a skill/experience issue. With the fairy its a game/developer issue.

You can only have one wait command active at a time. If you activate another macro with a wait command you overwrite the first one. Also...why should you be required to make a macro for something like this anyway? The game developers did a shoddy job programming the pet system in this game, that is the majority consensus. We are forced to rely on outside macro programs to do what should be done in game and the allowing of pet macros in game is only a bandaid. If the fix does not make the commands "Obey" and "Steady" a toggle that STAYS on till toggled off then they fixed absolutely NOTHING.
