Those with periodic error 90000: do you have a Realtek network adapter?

    FIXED:

After disconnecting with error 90k on an hourly basis and trying everything else, it looks like the culprit was automatic updates setting on Windows Update (which I now have scheduled for a certain time) or the automatic updates / running at startup of Easy Tune 6, my motherboard's chipset program. One or the other, but probably ET6. Since changing the Windows Update setting and changing the ET6 setting and closing it, I've had the game connected for about 10 hours straight with no disconnects while testing the connection.

I'm trying to narrow down the cause of frequent disconnects. I typically disconnect once about every hour or two. I see people disconnecting in instances and other areas all the time, so I know that it's not just me having this problem. There is no lag involved in my disconnections. I'm playing fine and then I instantly disconnect. No warning, just disconnect instantly.

What I've noticed is that people are reporting that one PC / laptop in their house has issues and another does not. Based on anecdotal evidence from people and my own testing, I think this might be a hardware issue. The PC I have that's disconnecting has a Realtek network adapter while my old PC which can barely run the game thus far hasn't disconnected, and it uses an Nvidia network adapter. This seems to be the only notable difference that I can discern between the two computers that would affect the game. I also have the PS3 version of the game and do not recall having error 90k / disconnect problems before playing the PC version on my gaming computer.

I'm thinking a possible workaround would be to buy an USB ethernet adapter, which I'll try tomorrow. The drivers and such on my Realtek are up to date.

If you're having error 90000 / disconnections, what network adapter are you using?

Here are things that I've tried:
    • Swapped out ethernet cables
    • Power cycled modem and router
    • changed which port in the back of router ethernet cable plugged into
    • bypassed router entirely and connected directly to modem
    • opened necessary ports
    • made sure firewall allowed FF14
    • disable firewall (the same one that works with FF14 on the other PC) and tried default Windows firewall
    • changed large send offload settings
    • tried VPN / tunneling services
    • changed account password out of paranoia that someone was attempting to log on my account, thus kicking me from the game
    • verified with my local ISP that there is no throttling (I know the owner real well, so I'm not getting lied to here)
    • etc.

I'm not sure what else that I could try, and the only difference that I can see between the PS3 and old PC vs. the gaming PC would be the network adapter. It could be that it's faulty (but it works fine for everything else and for every other game), or it could just be that Realtek adapters have an issue with this game. Anyway, I will buy an USB ethernet adapter tomorrow and test if that resolves the issue for me.

Did you update the drivers directly from realtek.com.tw ?

That might have actually fixed it just now. My hard drive crashed and I had to replace it shortly before I picked up the PC version, so after installing Windows and loading my firmware, I restored my previous drivers. After downloading drivers from their website and installing them, I haven't disconnected so far in about three hours. We'll see how this plays out. Thanks.

Nevermind, still disconnected with the updated driver from official site.

Tried the USB ethernet adapter with the default network adapter disabled in device manager, and I still disconnected. Does anyone have any ideas at this point?

If the adapter works on EVERYTHING ELSE but this game, chances are that it's the game's problem and not the adapter's.

this has nothing to do with your hardware, many are having this issue atm, and by looking at all the tracert and pings people posted, there is a time out in between ISP and Montreal data center, untill SE talk to them and re-route their data, there is nothing we can do.

See, the PC works with everything but this game just fine. The other PC and the PS3 do not have this problem with the game. So there is something about this particular game and this particular PC that has this issue, and other people have reported that one laptop or PC in their house will have these error 90k problems and the others will not. So, I'm guessing that there might be something in the hardware or software that causes the issue, and the fault lies with the game for creating the issue. I would understand if I experienced the disconnections on the PS3 and the other PC, but I do not. So, there's something about the game that doesn't like something about my PC, but I don't know what it is.

Let's put the shoe on the other foot. I've only ever seen the 90k error once, and that was while I had the game windowed and... posting to the tech forum about something else. The 90K error as far as I'm concerned means the connection has been lost from the server's end. Now as to why this is, I theorize has more to do with occasionally getting a crash instead. The occasional crash went away after updating the network drivers and leaving MSI Afterburner, ASUS GPU Tweak unloaded (these are tools that utilize Rivatuner Statistics Server.) Now the only difference with my setup and a lot of other setups is that I have an Intel Ethernet I217-V network adapter built into the Motherboard as it's not a cheap motherboard. It's also set to Jumbo Packets enabled because I have other GigE devices, and they route through an Apple Time Capsule before going to a SMC Cable Modem.

For the "entire network" to collapse, means UPnP is disabled or broken and the ports are unable to be forwarded resulting in the software filewall on these devices to become overloaded and, crash.

Now I would normally chalk up every single 90k error to this problem, except, again I don't have the problem, I have not set forwarding rules on my ISP's SMC modem, and the Apple Time Capsule is operating as a Switch, not a Router.

So how do you fix it?
    1) Buy a high end router, network cards, etc so this problem doesn't exist in the first place
    2) Update the firmware, and drivers on your networking devices, if your ISP hands out low-end router/modems this is a lot more likely to be the culprit. ISP's are terrible for updating firmware.
    3) Try your same computer at someone else's house.

It's all a matter of eliminating the problem, and it usually goes like this:
    1. Reinstall Windows
    2. Install stock drivers, try game
    3. Install updated drivers, try game
    4. Replace suspect hardware, with stock drivers, try game
    5. Replace suspect hardware, update drivers, try game
    6. Update firmware on networking devices, reset to factory settings
    7. Replace networking devices (routers and cables), reset to factory settings
    8. Have ISP replace the premises gear, update firmware if possible, reset to factory settings

Having exhausted all of those options, the problem is not within your control.

SE can't fix something that isn't within their control either. I don't see 600,000 reports of connectivity problems, I see dozens. So you're not a majority having problems, but you're still having problems due to reasons that SE probably doesn't have enough feedback about.

No I don't use realtek and I'm still enjoying this problem. I got DC'd then returned in the game and DC'd again to see a single shout.
