To players afraid of being new.

    Everybody was new.

I ran across a few people, and one just the last time I played who told us in the middle of a dungeon that he was new. I simply replied that I wish he would have told us earlier so we could have gave him the run-down of the dungeon. He told me that he was afraid to say it because the last couple times he did everybody in the dungeon left.

I just want to say please don't be afraid or let those types of people make you shy away from telling the group that you're new. It'll save everyone some time to give you a heads up on what to expect.

    Bingo.

No need to quit on new players. You're better off showing them how its done so they can improve and show the next new player.

Never understood the quit because someone is new mentality.

everytime before doing something for 1st time i always say im new to this

so they tell me tips about bosses

yet a first wipe is nearly 95% will happen

so the new player to dungeon or boss wont cover all tips by writing

and must take the full idea of boss tactic by the time he/she fighting it

and will understand the boss after his/her first attempt

Yeah I've noticed this as well. I ran Amdapor the other day and asked if anyone was new, no one responded, so I went along w/o the rundowns and such. When we got to the last boss, I saw an achievement pop from someone, the guy didn't mention he was new, yet the entire dungeon run up to that point ran without any deaths. The guy didn't know that you're supposed stand next to the statue during Imminent Catastrophe and ended up taking damage back to back. I told him during the fight after I saw the first burst though.

I don't care if someone is new, I'll stay there and help em get the idea of how the bosses and all work. I don't understand why people use the DF and ditch the group if a player says they're new... do they really expect EVERYONE to be experienced or something?

What is really bad about this situation is I am experienced and done pretty well healing as my SCH on all dungeons but I got to level 50 and with my own LS groups proven I can heal do these dungeons fine... But due to the worst of the worst FFXI elitest mindset that pissed me off about FFXI endgame returning in FFXIV and all people not from FFXI are horrible casual noobs and should gtfo, I don't want to df any endgame except Ifrit HM because I don't want to deal with morons being dicks and not aiding new runners or griefing a group for one reason or another, I don't roll with those people so I don't roll DF unless I have a friend to hang with on DF runs XD! I know I can heal fine but I haven't got my gears up yet due to excessive MW prices or nothing dropped yet to replace. Anyways, rambling, but I love helping new players but I get so angry at players because they leave immediately on "NEW" or not their "Ideal" set up, or gear checking people and not testing skill first...

I will always, always, always tell people when I'm new, or I just don't remember how things go. If people want to leave, they can. I'd rather take the chance that someone will explain it, and be patient with me if I mess something up because they know I'm new. I don't ever want to be the person that messes up and dies/causes a wipe because I didn't know a mechanic that someone could have just taken a moment to explain if I'd spoken up. If I say I'm new and someone leaves, they weren't going to be patient or helpful anyway, so that's fine. :x

I've always told people I am new, and as a tank that has worked out just fine until the 50 dungeons. I took a hit to my confidence coming into Ifrit HM as I was assigned to stun duty. I read up on the fight a bit and I knew eruptions had to be stopped, but as it was my first time I didn't know the pattern (and no one told me despite being new) and hit a few plumes due to nervousness, since it was the first time being in the seat of a 'DO THIS OR EVERYONE DIES AND ITS ON YOU' position and Australian latency can be unforgiving if I don't hit a button early enough.

One of the DPS chewed me out on my stuns and told me I shouldn't queue if I can't interrupt properly, but another was patient and told everyone to calm down a bit, he also explained the pattern to me. We managed to nail it the next go, since I saw the pattern and allowed my latency to not become such a factor. I honestly was prepared to leave since I couldn't do it right and was feeling put off by the sudden pressure.

I tell you what the problem of being new is: "SKIP THE F**** CUTSCENES!"

I hate that. I get it, you can watch them at the inn, at which point you lost the immersion. I bet that when those people shouting did the dungeons the first time, probably hitting 50 within the first days of the game, watched everything.

If people are impatient with that, I wonder what other things they will be impatient with. A mispull? Accidentally hitting a slept mob once? Etc.

I don't tell people when I'm new. I'm not interested in a run down of the dungeon. I want to see what's there. If the group wipes and I don't figure out why, sometimes I ask for tips.
Everyone deserves to be new and have fun with the dungeon. No one should feel like they have to announce they're new and learn about the dungeon before experiencing it. If you want to ask because you feel the pressure of wiping the group, then go ahead.

However, wiping isn't a big deal. If someone gets mad because the group wiped, they shouldn't be in Duty Finder.

You only get to experience a dungeon for the first time once. It's common courtesy to let other people see it for the first time, too.

And yes, I've been in groups where new people have caused wipes. It doesn't bother me. If we wipe a couple times, I ask if they want tips. If they don't, then I try again until they figure it out or want tips. Going through dungeons with new people is a lot of fun!

Many people aren't aware that you can watch them at the Inn. I wasn't aware of this until this week. Let people know they can do that and I bet they'll begin to skip them as well. Honestly, there shouldn't be cut scenes in these dungeons...but yeah, let people know.
