Rage of Halone animation takes TWO SECONDS, and it's NOT helpful

Yes, the skill is pretty, but the fact that it literally takes TWO SECONDS for the animation to finish and the enmity to take effect, it's causing a LOT of problems.

I mean as a start a melee skill that takes 2 seconds to pull off doesn't make any sense.
I've run into a lot of cases where this messes things up.
    • You can't build your combo chain to this and use it to grab the newly spawned mob because by the time the animation finishes, boss from turn 1 could already killed your healer
    • For those who switch tank in turn 2, the delay of Rage of Halone sometimes causes the boss go back and forth, and it takes another combo to bring the aggro back for the tank that just used provoke.
    • It's one of PLD's high-damage skill but a lot of times the mob would be already killed by others before Rage of Halone comes off
Things like that, even it's not game breaking, requiring to fix it is definitely not too much to ask.

Like this if you agree, paladins!

But there's a general delay in hate --> Mob behavior Transitions. So I'm not sure if RoH is your issue or the hate delay is the issue.

Here's a game. Next time you go into AK as a tank, and you're fighting with group of mobs that include Houndlights, when you suspect you're about to lose hate on the houndlight, do an enemity generating move on it. It could be anything, Flash, Butcher's Block Combo, whatever.

You'll see the houndlight move away from you and then a red arrow going back to you. It'll come back to you until a couple of GCDs later, do another hate combo on it. Again, it will move away and then stop and then come back to you.

The houndlight will move back and forth without attacking. It's pretty funny. I like to call it Hound Light Ping Pong.

    Edit: Yes, I'm bored.

Yeah I know about the delay in hate, but for RoH the delay still exists AFTER the 2 seconds it takes to finish the animation.

I "I liked" your post. TBH both these issues need addressing. =/

Unfortunately, there's numerous abilities that have these horrid animation delays.

We got quite a handful of them on MRD/WAR:

Butcher's Block takes a good second to go off. Always fun to have it readied for an add spawn, only to have the healer take a hit because it had time to run over and give them a love tap while you were busy looking cool swinging your axe around accomplishing nothing.

Overpower also takes a good second to go through the animation. The worst part I've found with it, however, is that you 1) need to be in melee range of the mob to start the ability and 2) stay in melee range/facing that mob when the animation finishes. I've sat there nearly a full second only to have Overpower cancel itself because of mob positioning, or have it go off and not hit a mob that was originally in range when I started it.

Brutal Swing, the MRD/WAR stun, probably infuriates me more than anything. It's our off-GCD stun, that requires, you guessed it, nearly a full second to hit and stun the mob. Given the ~1-1.5 second you already have to wait after a GCD ability is used before you can use an off-GCD ability in the first place, it makes for an incredibly pathetic interrupt, particularly considering the 30 sec CD we get tacked on to it for the pleasure of it being off-GCD.

You obviously learn to adapt to these timing issues, but the fact that they perform in such a manner in the first place, particularly as a tank, is quite annoying.

It's basically a hidden spell cast time, the "Instant" in the tooltip of melee attacks is a blatant lie. The cast time is especially noticeable against moving targets, if you can't finish the cast, you can be right ontop of the target when you use the ability and it will still be out of range by the time the ridiculously long animations finish.

Could stomach the fancy animations, but in return the server needs to check for a hit BEFORE the animation, NOT AFTER.

Interesting. I didn't even know about this. Do most MMO's do stuff like this before the animation?

I'm reluctant to speak on this because I know that I haven't played the game as much as many PLDs have. But, for now, my tentative answer is that I feel that timing skills based on animations (and getting a feel for the timing) is what really pushes the game's difficulty as you progress.

I think a nice fix would be to apply the DMG done by skills at the start instead of the end of the animation.

    Nope.

Final Fantasy trying to be too flashy for it's own good.
