    Summoner and DoTs

    I'm totally over the argument of more pet focused vs why we have dots, but I wanted to discuss our current mechanics.

    Does it strike anyone else as odd that we, being the premier DoT class of FF14, have ZERO interaction with our DoTs? I mean, we have one extension ability (contagion), and one nuke "based" on DoTs (fester...but thats really a stretch...all it requires is the existence of DoTs, not actually interacting with them).

    Even Archers, with their DoTs being a tiny part of their dps, have a massively awesome proc off of theirs (River of Blood).

    Yet we have...nothing! We are by far the most STATIC and boring rotationwise class of any of the DPS. Our rotation has zero moving parts, and we know EXACTLY what we have to do, and when.

    Granted we have quite a few buttons to push but...for a DoT class, you'd think we have something based off of ticks?

    For example, maybe each tick (or crit tick) has a chance to make the next Ruin II do double damage?

    Or perhaps, like how our pet crits have a chance of making our spell haste go up, our dot ticks (or crits) could make our pet stronger?

    Perhaps Ruin could have a small chance (or always) increase our DoTs durations by 1 second?

    Perhaps we could have a resource bar that fills up when DoTs tick, increasing the power of ruin, or our pet? Or decreasing the cooldown of aetherflow?

    Or perhaps DoT ticks have a chance to restore MP, so we don't run out keeping up Thunder?

    I'm looking at WoW warlocks for inspiration (because face it, we ARE quite similar to warlocks), and all 3 specs have either a resource or a proc or both that make the rotation more dynamic.

    I'm just surprised there isn't any discussion on this at all.

    What are your thoughts?

    On the bright side you have the highest DPS in the game :P

    I tend to agree with you, our rotation is very static and somewhat boring (once you get the hang of it).

    I personally would like to be able to incorporate something affecting our aetherflow (like you stated above). Decrease the Cooldown on Fester, make anything that uses Aetherflow an instant crit, reduce the cooldown of the next aetherflow, etc.

    One ability I also would love to see the dev's implement, though I highly doubt they will, is a cooldown that's 1-3 minutes where it will instantly apply a Bio II, Miasma, and Bio to a target. This would help us with our ramp up time at the beginning of a fight, OR if we need to put out some burst in a short amount of time.

    I totally agree with you, @pandabearcat . Also, nice ideas.

    You're doing it right, comparing the WoW's Warlock with SMN. I was doing the same comparison with the Summoner class from Lineage 2

    Well if SE decide to keep SMN as it is i could agree with you. it was boring to "just" apply DoT's with little something else to do (spamming ruins and fester/bane in some occasion are not Exhilarating at all)

    maybe they can add some added effect like BRD river of blood or BLM Thundercould that procs with summon - reset enkindle CD / make it shorter / activate a new ability from the summon when something procs just to make the rotation less boring

    how are smns the highest dps in the game? i have smn relic and i dont see it lol

    Aren't they? It's what everyone has been claiming with the new updated parsers. Don't know how accurate those are yet but people are saying they are pretty darn accurate and are putting summoners above everyone else by a good 30-40 DPS.

    Last I heard, Bio II was being modeled incorrectly by parsers, in turn inflating SMN DPS. I'm not at the level where I've kept up on it, but that was the last thing I heard during all the "no I'm the highest DPS, no I am!" arguments.

    Something like BLM's Thundercloud would really suit SMN. Beta BLM, with Thunder stacking, was really fun.
