Can you guys break down 3 classes for me?

I just reached 20 on my lancer despite how cool dragoons look im not all into the skills. Im looking into possibly playing a warrior or a scholar im playing on ps3 if that makes any difference? Im kind of wanting to play a class that is needed/least played i know you can max everything but classes like scholar require me to focus mind on arcanist etc.

You're asking about jobs, not classes.

And I wouldn't call scholar lesser played. I see far more scholors then whitemages, on multiple servers. And I've seen plenty of warriors. Monk is the one I've seen the least of.

However, Monk isn't the easiest class to play, it's VERY position dependent, and you have to stay in constant cycles with your combos, and doesn't really get access to it's strongest combo until later on. Monk also tends to have a lesser attack and defense value then dragoon does, but makes up for it in faster attack speed, skill speed, and consumes less TP(which dragoons eat up quickly). Warrior is also the more difficult of the tanking classes. can't say much for scholor, as i don't play magic based classes.

hmm ok so no to scholar then are warr more pop than paladins? as far as monks go i dont really care for them to be honest. im not too worried about learning ive been a main raid tank before

if he doesnt like lnc/drg i doubt he'd enjoy mnk since mnk is the faster-paced, more micro-management class.

if you wish to be needed and don' mind the responsibility, give tank and healer classes a try, but be ready to research thoroughly before each fight or you are going to be responsible for a lot of wipes.

alternatively, archer/brd is very useful, but since it queues as a dps on duty finder, you wont get groups as fast, althought once u hit higher level and have a fc/ls, you will be in high demand.

I think im leaning more towards tanking at the moment which of the two are least popular I already know warrior is harder

Probably Warrior. Though I wouldn't pick a tank class based purely on what others are not doing. Considering the responsibility of tanks, you should make sure you're enjoying playing it, regardless of what others are doing. Few things are worse than a bad tank who isn't doing their job and is just playing it for the quick queue times.

im lvling both up simultaneously and they feel v different.

gld seems to be fast-paced (maybe its just e sound of rage of halone lol), and you could afford to be a little.... imprecise, for the lack of better words. when adds appear i jist run over while spamming flash, position myself, and do my combo while cycling my defensive cooldowns.

warrior demands a little more attention, as overpower is directional, and u have to watch what abilities to pop at when because mitigation isn't the only thing we do.

According to the charts posted by Square Enix, White Mages outnumber Scholars by a large margin.


Mitigation = Damage Reduction.

Try the classes out and play what you like. Don't go buy least played or most played - go by role. In terms of necessities by role, Tank > healer > Crafters > DPS.

However, I would highly suggest you go by what class you enjoy playing. I dislike the paladin playstyle but enjoy the Mrd playstyle. Even if Paladin were superior in every way, I wouldn't play it.
