Simple solution is just to not worry about implementing resuming. How often do people actually DC while crafting? Sure, it sucks, but things happen.
im too scared to try craft my HQ item level 70 stuff because the materials are too expensive and if I d/c they're gone.
It happens, specially for those that never get disconnected usually on the high level craft you're trying to HQ.
It's just bad luck, sure but it really really really really sucks when this happens. You'll understand once you experience this, I had this once or twice due to power outage right in middle of crafting and it just sucks.
Resume Crafting would be nice and as other suggested, if devs can somehow bring back the last state of crafting & start in a crafting position already I don't see this being used for exploit to try and cancel the craft or do other things to alter the end result of the craft.

No one ever sees the potential for exploitation until it happens. Not being rude to you in particular, just sayin...
I never thought it would be possible to instantly teleport to mining nodes but botters found a way to script that.
Although it may be possible, I would think it would be much harder to make a hack where it restores say full CP for example than simply moving character to a specific coordinate. Either way RMT's will always try to find a way to cheat, if players tries to cheat with something like this it will be easy to detect on the log and end up being banned quickly imo.
Let me know when you lose 2 million gil's worth of materials because of a DC and we'll see if your reaction is still "oh well things happen".
You make a good point, however I was thinking more along the lines of them being able to exploit their mats back on a failed attempt at getting quality to 100%, to effectively get unlimited tries on a single craft until they hit 2 excellents and get their 100% 2star item. I agree that restoring full CP mid-craft would be a tough thing to accomplish, but these guys seem to dedicate large portions of their lives to figuring out ways to extort games. At this point, I wouldn't put anything past themAlthough it may be possible, I would think it would be much harder to make a hack where it restores say full CP for example than simply moving character to a specific coordinate. Sure but if you know how to hack crafting, why would you only do it for interrupted crafts?
Intentional disconnects cannot allow any benefit if the progress is resumed. The only real issue is exploiting a potential bug. Just save synthesis progress and stats after each step and you're done -- pause and resume any time. As long as you save stats (which you have to do as a result of Inner Quiet), you could never exploit it by switching foods between disconnects.
Still, it's worth noting that you're dealing with an issue a lot more than discouraging when you get disconnected making a gryphonskin ring and lose 1 million gil worth of mats. I've seen it happen to people. Unless you're incredibly wealthy, you can't afford to just shrug that off. This means crafters can't afford to use others' mats when crafting expensive items unless they are terribly wealthy already. 90k monster eats the mats, and now you as a crafter owe the client half a million gil for the stuff you took from them.
