That makes it impossible for a player to abuse the moogle as expanded inventory.

So, if your stuff got sent by moogle, someone must've had access to your login to invite another player and send the stuff over.
I don't know why you would consider this abuse, especially considering its common practice in almost every other mmo to have a mule to send stuff to.

That's because it is -abuse-, and players do that knowing darn well it is. Most freemium game players even do this. I know of a guy who had a new storage mule account for every material the game had. You think new-character limits are silly, just wait to see how much worse it gets on freemium games.

    This points to two problems:
    1) If players feel they need to do this, then the game does not provide adequate storage, or the stacking limits are too low
    or
    b) the player is just hoarding stuff they should't be hoarding.

In FFXIV you should be getting rid of materials immediately. Some materials are practically worthless and those you should just destroy or sell to the NPC (hint, anything that is a market price of 1g sell to the NPC.) This isn't some crappy freemium game that punishes you by making you destroy your collectibles to get new ones.

No tax on selling to the NPC. It's much faster to get rid of trash by NPC'ing it than waiting for someone to buy it. All the level-1 crafting items are available from NPC's already so unless you're underselling the NPC, nobody is going to buy. It's actually quite laughable because there are some items I acquired in Version 1(Purple Sagolii Slag) that I put on the market and watched the prices go from 5000gil to 1gil with no buyers. I think these items were left in the game but have no use nor are they obtainable. So there really is stuff I need to just outright trash because they're trash now.

When I go into a dungeon, and I don't have inventory space, I start destroying any crafting materials I know I can just harvest again.
