Constant Spam via PM, and in game chat.

I have 3 questions...

1. I was wondering if there is an option in game that disables 'private messaging'? I keep getting constant spam for leveling and gils.
2. Is there an easy way to report spammers and block at the same time?
3. Is there a way to delete chat history? I do not want to read a long scroll of spam, in the chat box.

If there is an option to do any of what I stated above, then I must have missed it, and I will require new head gear... er, glasses.

1.Go into your settings, last vertical tab will be for you chat log. You will see the option, iirc it's General Filter or something like that, click that and you will have to option of what kind of chat messages you see.

as for 2. and 3. no there is not, I do believe that when you disable the option to see say private messages it doesn't just disable from them on, it actually filters them out of the whole chat.

2. has been asked for since at least EA, still not implemented, tho i think they may have said something about it in either one of YoshiP's letter or maybe at TGS, have to look.

There is an option to report spam/bad users, actually. One has to go to the help, look for the appropriate entry (which I forgot, but that is intuitive) and after having copied the incriminated message (which I don't know how to do it on PS3) there is an option to copy it in a help "query" which is actually the way to report those people. In other words it is a mess.

So I would suggest SE the following:
- Make a subcommand in the chat, where after highlighting the name there is the option to block/report those spammers. ! click far away. I just joined the game 2 days ago and sorry I am very sick of them already. I don0t even know why such an obvious option is missing.
- What about moderators? I thought there were people monitoring the servers. Most of these messages are even very obvious to filter, many include the "www" string.

Please just ban the b*stards because it is really ruining the experience. I can't keep blacklisting all of them. The 200 limit won't be enough either.

Given SE's experience with FFXI and what happened with V1 it appalled me they released V2 without the most elementary RMT/bot detection and an EASY way for players to report it .. expecting us to jump through hoops to capure endlessly scrolling chatlogs to be able to cut/paste text then open the reporting too and click away to get to where we need to paste spam .. followed by more multi-clicking to be able to /block them.

It's like SE don't really WANT us to report them, they make it so damned tedious to do so.

for certain getting back an email saying "we are investigating" is crap... The spam is right there for everyone to see even a GM how hard is it to snap that person away ? lock the key and bye bye to rmt. Make it so its too expensive for them to keep having to buy content keys over and over.
Of course the biggest issue here is there are Jerks dumb enough to actually buy the gil so they are feeding monster...

When you report them, use the "Harassment" category. According to SE, that's what category they want. If you see botters teleporting around and stuff, then use the "Cheating" category.

i have macro for PM's /blist add <r>

basically just blacklist spammers that last sent me a message,reporting getting to be to much like hard work...so many of them

Thanks all for the help. Will look into all the suggestions posted.

Sidenote: It was easier with another competing product to right click name, select report and spammers are easily placed into the blacklist. Hopefully S.E., would be able to implement something relatively close.

WOW and Rift have it right, it's sad SE didn't learn from them, the right-click is easy and puts a session-based /ignore on them without cluttering up your blacklist.
