    QOL: Communication Between Platforms

I try to be as tolerant as humanly possible of anyone who's trying to get enjoyment out of a game, however; I do NOT get enjoyment out of having to ask my party members, at the start of EVERY dungeon, to "jump twice if you're on PS."

Do not take this the wrong way - I admire ANY person who is skilled on a console, just as I admire those who are skill on a PC. That being said - If I am to be expected to pay a monthly fee to play this game, I expect all players to be on the same basic level as far as communication is concerned.

Again: Please do not misconstrue this as console bashing. I am simply fed up with my groups failing because of a lack of communication.

I haven't had any issues with PS3 players... or people playing on PC's with controllers.

That said, I wish there was an indicator that someone is on a PC or a PS3 so that people

That's precisely why I ask the moment I enter an instance whether the DPS classes are on PS. Not so I can judge them, but so I can determine how I need to interact with them. So far I can say, unfortunately, that the PS players have not been able to, in my experience, handle boss mechanics with any degree of success - more specifically, the final boss in Brayflox's and the first boss in Sunken Temple. They've also been unable to communicate with me in any capacity other than jumping or /shrugging.

Requiring an indicator of the platforms that the game is being played on insinuates that there is a disparity between the two. If this game is designed to function seamlessly between two platforms then it should not need to notify the players as to what platform their teammates are playing from - both platforms should be on equal grounds.

Also, just to clarify: I'm not singling out DPS classes - I play a White Mage/Scholar and my friend plays a Paladin. We do not play without each other in dungeons because we are a very effective team, so it's always the DPS that end up getting pugged.

Instead of asking if they're on PC or PS, ask if they understand you at all.
If they don't understand you on PS, what's to say they would understand you on PC?

This is not pertinent given that you have the option of choosing which languages you're familiar with before you queue for a dungeon. If you can't follow instructions given in a particular language, don't queue with that language enabled.

The problem is the combination of PC and PS not being able to communicate effectively (save for a few scenarios like the PS player having a keyboard or a computer with voice chat) and the inherent slow response given the nature of controllers - the latter of which is obviously not PS specific, but still a very apparent obstacle.

Having played XI for many years the answer that applied then applies now: players using a console who want to be able to take part in complex group content attach a keyboard.

I doubt (m)any XI players who did/do end-game content (Dynamis back in the day, SoA now) on a PS2 did so without one, otherwise they seriously handicapped their team-mates by their inability to communicate in anything other than auto-translate 'soundbites' which are a very poor substitute even in XI where most fight mechanics were a lot simpler than XIV's.

My comment had nothing to do with what language you or other players are queuing up as.
If they are new to the instance, they may not understand what you're trying to explain, even if they speak the same language.

That said, from Sastasha to Castrum Meridianum I myself haven't had any need to ask if anyone was on PS3. Maybe it's different at endgame.

I took "whether they understand you at all" as a reference to a possible language barrier; my apologies.

You do bring up another valid point, though. Some, if not most, console players are not particularly familiar with how MMOs work as there aren't many around. I realized this after my first attempt at Sunken Temple last night when our two pugged DPS immediately ran into battle. Needless to say, the tank and I immediately left the party and suffered our 15 minute lock-out.

I've had none of these issues with any of the dungeons up until the last boss of Brayflox's; that's where I first noticed a real gear/skill/communication check. I would hope that these types of problems can't exist in end-game as most intelligent party/raid leaders will boot you for repeatedly screwing up, and also require clear, concise communication with their players.

Most PS3 players are using keyboards, so you would never be able to tell them apart from PC players. You have obviously run into a few bad players and that's expected, but they probably won't be around for the long haul anyway. Good luck getting in a decent FC when you cant even communicate with them.

I am compelled to disagree, based on the lack of empirical evidence coupled with my own personal experience over the last few weeks - unless of course you're right and people are simply too lazy to type, which is very possible :P
