Dungeon Leechers are becoming a growing problem

In the past week I have noticed an alarming increase in players who queue for CM runs and purposely go afk in an attempt to receive free tomes. Without some kind of system in place to punish this behavior or remove them from the party these players have nothing to fear from partaking in this sort of behavior. This is extremely unfair for players such as myself who play DPS classes and are forced to wait in long queues just to end up with this kind of game experience. We are forced to do the dungeon 1 person down and give the leecher free tomes or leave the dungeon and wait in another long queue.

I looked up this issue on Reddit and it seems that the general response by SE is along the lines of: "there is no rule governing how a player is supposed to play their role in a dungeon." However, I think this is a subtle case of intentionally causing grief to other players for an unfair advantage so it shouldn't fall under the protection of this clause. I feel a fix is really needed.

Indeed, there's been a drastic increase recently. I went from never seeing one two weeks ago to having 3/5 runs today with leechers. Maybe just bad luck, but it's ridiculous.

Using the Duty finder for high level content is becoming a growing problem as well.

I hate to sound like a broken record here but until there is a real socialy negative aspect to being a complete douche, people will continue to be. No ammount of "thumbs up points" will stop leechers from leeching, and morons from being morons, and outright rude people from being just that.

Give players a chance no matter how small it is for their rediculous actions to come back to bite them someday (Being blacklisted by people on your server to find they are very important social figures in the community). Just look at how well behaved most people are in the real world in social situations, the "Jerk" in real life in a minority instead of a swelling growth on the community due to the social implications of randomly lashing out at those around you.

Had our first purpose leecher the other night. Was a paladin with Relic +1 even. We scolded them and they eventually replied "You're the first to complain "

I've noticed that a large portion of these leechers are tanks. The one I dealt with tonight that caused me to make this thread was also a relic PLD. I'm not blaming tanks for having instant queues, that's just how it is and that's fine. But I've been noticing that a sizable handful of these leechers are tanks. If the group decides not to run and give them free tomes then it's no skin off their back. They just hop out and queue up again for another instant dungeon. As I mentioned, I'm willing to put forth the effort to get my tomes but I get punished by the leecher's behavior and have to wait in a 20-40min queue while they jump back in to a dungeon instantly without any sort of repercussion for their bad behavior.

Join a capable FC and do dungeons with your guildies. Problem solved.

But yes, there needs to be some changes. No reason not to have a kick system in place.

Its been a probliem since 1.0, they did it with the chocobo escorts.

Not surpised its still happening. SE said the would sort it in 1.0 & did a OK job at it, so hopefuly they will have something out soon for ARR.

Too bad the community here is so against being able to kick someone from dungeons eh? Enjoy your leechers I suppose (or enjoy leeching, if you're really that against it).

I'd just say - put in an AFK timer on dungeons with a penalty to it: if you trigger the AFK timer on yourself while in a dungeon, you are lock from dungeons for 2 days. Then make that timer 10 minutes rather than the normal 30. If someone has to leave, they should leave, not AFK. If you've an emergency and can't even get to the logout button: you have bigger concerns than a 2 day timeout.

Also, people who reque after a group breakup with no bosses down, who are NOT the first ones to leave, should get bumped up in the DF queue.

But my ideal solution would be to let groups that queue into a dungeon stay together and reque together, even if some of them leave - I think that should be in there even if none of the other solutions are, and regardless of whether or not the game gets a votekick system. Couple it with the ability to make cross-world friends and group with them for DF purposes... and you'll start seeing these PUGs turn into mini-communities.

Votekick is too abusable. Better to try other methods for accountability first - like cross server shareable blacklists and the ability to set a flag to not be queued with anyone who has been blacklisted a certain amount more than oneself has been.

I would set it as 'DF only random-groups people who have been blacklisted a similar amount - a range of 10.' and only people who have blacklisted others a similar amount - but a range of 50 on that. And how many times someone has been blacklisted, or how many people (but not who) they have blacklisted should both be visible on lodestone. As well, blacklisting should require typing a reason, 50-150 characters - and the reasons people have blacklisted you also visible on lodestone (with a 1-month ban against anyone who types a name into that reason).

My suggestion is pretty complex... but I've very rarely seen votekick used legitimately in any MMO...

I've also very rarely seen AFKers though. Perhaps the simplest solution would just be to remove from the group and dungeon anyone AFK more than 5 minutes (granted I have seen people who tried to speed run and force constant pulls in a group to prevent this trigger, and to prevent WoW's must wait 30 seconds after combat to votekick trigger...).
