A Relic Reborn question

I'm on the part of the quest where i have the precursor weapon, and the materia, but don't have them melded yet. I was told that i shouldn't equip or use the item until it's melded, but others have told me it's fine. I pretty much spent all my gil getting these things off the Market Board, and all the crafters want 20k gil to meld them, but it may be a while before i build up to that again. The weapon is a good deal better than what i have even without the materia, so it would help me to use it, but i really don't want to bone myself on the quest for the relic.

Anyone able to give me a definitive answer as to if i can use it before melding?

You can use it or not. Of course if you use it, the weapon become bind to you so you can't trade it.
But to Meld your weapon, there's "Request Meld" menu when you right click on the person, that way you can meld things that bound to you without having to use Trade.

Yes it is safe to use it, and to add to Theref's post, if you are using the gamepad or are on PS3 you can select someone then hit Square to open that right-click menu.

Yeah it varies from server to server, server with big amount of gills on the flow of course have bigger fee
on my server it cost 1500 gills, and the precursor weapon varies between 3000 - 7500 gills.

The cheapest precursor was 55K, materia 9k.

Thanks all for the advice. I've been working on leveling crafting, but it's taking me ages, and since each item seems to need a different 50 to do, it's time consuming. :\

This makes me sad. I paid 100k gil for the materia, 50k for the weapon, and another 10k to have it melded.

Ask a LS / FC mate to meld it for free?

I do melds for free on my server and if the person wants to tip, even just 5 gil, that's cool with me.
All it takes from a crafter is a push of a button and since you've spent money getting the materia etc, why should I take more from you?
