    Am I skipping quests I shouldn't?

    Hello everyone.

I'm currently playing an Arcanist, out of Limsa Lominsa. So far, the story quest have followed along whatever questhubs I was send to, right from when I started picking up quests in Limsa. I've been send to other continents (Ul'dah, New Gridania) a couple of times, and I've always skipped whatever quests I happened to come upon, because I figured I'd do those quests whenever I started another level 1 class. Plus, they were usually very low level quests, so no point really. Now though, I've been send to Eastern Thanalan, and I've been here for quite a while now. Several story quests in this area. Am I wrong in skipping all these regular quests, thinking that I'll come back when I start a class out of Ul'dah? So far, I've only done quests in La Noscea areas, besides whatever dungeons/story/class quests I've done. Thanks in advance.

After the three L15 dungeons are done, all the quests from the three cities converge into a single storyline and from there on, you'll need all sidequests to move on. Starting from camp... Horizon, I think, you'll start getting quests that are the same for all three cities

I save the low level city quests from each city for when I level a class from that city. But I also usually do it the first time I go to that city. For instance when I first went to Ul'dah I unlocked all three classes and used the quests to help level THM. For the most part you're probably fine. But there will be quests that only become available later if you've completed earlier quests.

Keep in mind that most of the city quests give so little exp that you would level faster just going outside and killing random mobs. What you're mostly missing out on is the free gear rewards, plus the unlocking of other quests.

I skipped doing a bunch of level 20ish quests on my first class, but in the grand scheme of things I don't think it messed up my leveling too much. From what I gather almost everyone has had to stop and grind to catch up with the story at some point or another.

Thank you guys for the replies. As I understand it then I'd be better off doing these quests then if it's now a shared storyline. Any pointers as to when I reach the materia unlock quest?

The materia convert quest is quite early when you reach Black Brush Station. The materia attachment quest is when you have a DoH that is not culinary to 19.

Honestly if you don't need them, I would leave the sidequests for leveling your side classes. I would also recommend against doing any quests for XP if they aren't close to your level, as lower level quests are much more valuable for lower level classes.

The only side quests that unlock things off the top of my head are the Dye quest in Vesper Bay, the Materia converting and melding quests at the goblin camp, the Chocobo mount quest at your grand company, and your Chocobo Companion quest at Camp Tranquil at level 30.

There are also the Dungeon quest unlocks, a majority of them are from Nedrick Ironheart in Vesper bay, but wanderer's palace is off another NPC in the same area. Cutter's cry is unlocked in the market areas of Ul'dah.

I don't think the side quests are too important to do right away, even though they unlock other follow-up quests. Very important though are the story quests. If you are too high level, you won't benefit from the armor they will provide. Currently I am playing catch-up on the story quests but I am almost there. I have a 3 level difference. Another thing is that, even though the dungeon story quests will adjust your level, you are still pulling a lot of aggro. Good if you are a tank, not so good as DPS class.

I skipped quite a few quests when I leveled Pugilist. I just do it as needed like say dungeon drop is not in my favor and I need updated pieces of armor or when I'm underleveled for main quest but that doesn't happen to me till level 40+.
