It's not the bandwidth at issue, but the network driver. I have a 50Mbit connection and have only encountered "Frame slowdown" in some congested areas, but that's relatively benign compared to the "approaching the edge of the zone, suddenly frame rate drops and then crashes" that I encountered before updating the display drivers.

Where people are getting crashes, are problems with their network driver's TOE feature, nVidia users are getting crashes on 64bit systems as a result of this lag, which means that there is some resource the game is leaking. I've honestly been trying to find ways of 100% replicating the crashes or network lag and have come up with nothing except EVGA Precision X or MSI Afterburner being at fault -sometimes-. Like if I leave it loaded but never engage the screenshot or video capture, it doesn't crash for hours. But that's the almost same as not having it running. I've been able to capture an entire dungeon run with it running, but youtube seems to have lost it. (I'll upload it again I guess or just make a new one)

I tried to use it yesterday and it immediately crashed FFXIV. So it's not predictable.
