Affinity of recipes

I assume affinity of recipes are based on the crystals that are being used when crafting the item. I could be wrong, but can anyone confirm this?

I have used Brand of Fire on some stuff which i think has the affinity of fire, but i dont notice progress being 200%.

Brand of Fire: Level 37, 15cp: Increases progress, progress doubles when recipe affinity is fire.

It is double, technically. Progress without Brand of X on any Affinity recipe is halved. Also the affinity is listed on the bottom of the Crafting Log window when selecting a recipe.

The affinities only exist on a handful of recipes, which i can only personally remember seeing on the restoration type crafts, like the vintage coatee or goblin longsword. In the crafting log, in the characteristics Window they're denoted as lightning, fire, etc, and when you're crafting these items you'll actually see a swirling elemental sphere on the table/anvil/whatever.
