    A problem i'm working on fixing: Help {Can I have it?}

    Ok so I just got this new laptop.Its a Toshiba Satellite L655 and I am not getting the performance I should be getting. From what I hear I should have no problem running the game on at least standard or higher but I sometimes cant even run it on low
    I have been taking advice from everyone I can. So far I have deleted the bloat wear Toshiba crammed in, and now I am defragementing my hard disk. Is there anything else I can do to help get the max performance out on my PC?

    My system specs are:
    Model: Toshiba Satellite L655
    Processor: AMD Phemon II P940 Quad-core Processor 1.7 GHz
    RAM: 4.00 GB
    OS: Windows 7 64-bit
    Video Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series

    If there is any other info anyone needs on my PC just let me know and i'll post it.
    Someone please help me! I really like this game but sometimes I just can't run it in a playable way T_T

    Your Processor is quite slow for a game of this magnitude. Issue is; FFXIV only uses 2 cores in your processor, and overtaxes the first core but A LOT. at 1.7GHz there is probably a lot of slowdown and graphical issues I would assume.

    Get a copy of RealTemp which you can download online. Start the game up and run it and watch the temps of your first two processor cores. If either of them are above 80C, you are damaging your CPU and it probably cannot handle the game. Edit: Above 90C there is a chance it will start to melt because of the heat.

    This game was designed with desktops in mind, however, some laptops can run it, but your processor needs to be faster.

    Im not sure that 4200 Series can handle the game either, since its a mobile version of the real cards in desktops. Again don't damage your hardware to play this game, you will regret it later.

    I will also point out that Toshiba Laptops in particular has issues with this game. One of the things that I have found is that most of the ATI Mobility cards in the Toshiba laptops cannot be updated with the actual ATI drivers, they can only be updated with the modified Toshiba versions; this means that the driver version is generations behind (8.something instead of 11.something). Also, there are bios issues with many of the Toshiba laptops.

    That said, I run 14 on my laptop when I'm on road trips. The graphics suck, and I can't do combat, but I can craft, do local leves, etc. and chat. Graphics are all but the lowest level. I had to flash the bios and basically "break" my laptop intentionally by confusing it about what drivers were installed (so that I'm running the Catalyst 11 drivers). It works. Mostly. I can play for about 30min before getting a directX error now.

    I dont get errors, I just have really bad frame rate at times. If i'm outside uldah or limsa and there is no weather I can run it fairly well on standard but in the black shroud or when it rains I have alot of choppiness

    Your laptop specs are indeed too low to run FFXIV at a decent framerate. There's not a lot you can do except turn all of your settings down. Make sure to turn your resolution down as low as you can.
