Subscription for nationals abroard

I am having a real headache trying to pay to extend my game time. I've got like 10 days before the game becomes a placemat.

It all comes down to regions and nationalities.

I'm a British citizen presently in Spain, who has a North America region version of FF14 - yeah try keeping that straight. It won't accept my Visa card, due to the region/IP/card region mismatch (Ironic, because my bank is technically Spanish but my card belongs to their British branch).

Normally I get around these issues by using paypal (Many foreign companies fail to realise the EU states have open borders and a European national living in a different European state is neither rare nor the sign something is wrong). Now, it won't let you subscribe via PayPal, nor will it let you directly by Crysta via paypal, but reddit points out the SE accounts page does let you buy crysta via ultimate pay, via PayPal. However, when I try this I get an error and my payment attempt rejected for some reason.

Being in the butt-end of Spain means I can't just go out to the shops and buy a game time card because they're not available here (In fact there's not even a video game store in about 20km's of here).

I attempted to contact customer support, but they said that because I was an Eu citizen i had to contact Eu support, but Eu support then told me i had to contact NA support because my account is an NA region - even though NA support sent me to Eu support in the first place... so customer support is bloody useless.


So what other options remain for me to obtain a subscription that arn't going to get flagged up by their overzealous "anti-fraud" (or "anti-customer") system?



Edit: I was eventually directed to a website that was a bit more lacking in it's security that could sell me an ultimate game card, and they accepted that for crysta, so problem solved now. Still Squeenix could do a bit more to make it easier to subscribe. Almost half of my friends in our linkshell have had some similar horror story of having to find round-about ways to renew their subscription

Can you get a friend in North America to buy a disposable / refillable credit card (say $100 )..use that to pay for a 6 month sub and you pay them back via paypal ?

its round about..but it sounds like a very weird situation that may require a weird solution.

Did UltimatePay give you any idea why your payment didn't work? Before SE started allowing subs. to be paid directly using a CC I used Crysta purchased via UP using both a CC and PayPal. This was from the UK so could be due to that.

@Crazy: Might well come to that.

@Kraggy: None whatsoever, on Paypal it simply says "seller cancelled the order" and refunds the amount due. I tried signing up to UltimatePay proper, but the squarer enix ultimatepay screen doesn't let you type in your username for some reason, it seems glitched.


In meantime I've thrown customer support another e-mail hopefully this time they won't just play customer pinball trying fob me off onto the other department ad infinitum

Since you are able to buy Crysta but you seem to be locked out for now, you can grab yourself a Ultimate Pay Card online (or anywhere else you can find it) and then calling up their phone and they will push the crysta to your account, takes like 5 minutes from what I hear.

You said you've got a North American version of FFXIV so buying an EU Timecard won't work (from what people have said on the forums, there's literally no where to enter it in an NA account because they aren't available in NA).

Sorry that I can't actually add any helpful information, but wanted to advise against considering a timecard as you'd likely be wasting your money.

When is Timecards coming for NA?
Must I search 1k worth of sites to find this out? I don't want to use my CC and UGC only goes to 20-50-100 or something like that.
Would just rather buy the FF timecard everyone else has but NA. :I
