    Starter class v job query

I've read a few threads and links to info on what classes are needed for what jobs.

I've also read that you can take ANY class you fancy and swap about as you fancy.

What is confusing me is all the quests seem to come on the first class you take, your starter class. Any other classes seem to just have to go kill lots to level between 1 class quest every 5 levels.

So what if you started a class under misguided ideas, not wanting it as main? I started as CNJ thinking I would get cure, protect and raise for any class. Totally didn't think about the fact they are worthless without MIND and INT stats. I definately don't want CNJ as my main.

Would I do better restarting as a class I do want to main instead so that class gets all the quests? Asking now at level 13 so I don't lose too much progress. Would hate to get to level 30 or beyond and wish I had restarted. I haven't a clue what job I want to be yet

After the level 10 class quest on your starting class (and then the story quest that gives you airship access), your starting class makes no difference to anything else in the game. Stop doing quests on CNJ. Switch to another class and level it to 13 via hunting logs, leves, and FATEs. It'll be just like you started on that class and leveled CNJ to 13 on the side. If the class you want to switch to is in another city, you'll have to make your way through the main story at least until you unlock the airship (around level 15) and travel to that city to unlock the class at its guild.

I'd advise you to stop doing side quests entirely on both CNJ and the class you want to switch to. Stick to the main story quests, hunting logs, a few fates/leves/dungeon runs/guildhests when you need them to pick up a level or three to qualify for the next main story quest. That's enough to level at a decent pace, and it'll leave side quests for future classes you might want to level, which won't have the main story quests to help them along.

I don't get what you mean with "worthless without mind or int stats"

each class has it's own stats

as a conjurer just put everything in mind

A physical class doesn't have MIND stats so the heals are so tiny as to be almost worthless when borrowed from CNJ. That's all I meant. CNJ gets good use from them but I want a physical class instead.

Bixby thank you for clarifying the swap, I hadn't realised I could just ignore the quest and pick them up later. It won't be easy to just ignore them lol

    Thanks

EDIT: side query to that. What happens if I abandon a quest? Is it lost forever or can I pick it up again later for a different class? Got so many to high for a starting class that all the arrows are confusing me. Ta

If you abandon a quest, it resets. The "!" reappears on the quest giver again, and you can talk to him to take it again, starting all over from the beginning. Note that, except for quests tied to your class/job, which require you to *be* that class/job to take them, perform them and turn them in, you are *not* tied to the class you were when you took a quest. You can change to any class you wish at any time during the quest's performance, and you can be any class you wish when you turn the quest in and that class will get the XP (however, you can't turn in a quest if your current level is below the quest's minimum level).

Also, you can't abandon quests tied to the main story. Those are the ones where the icon looks like it's on fire.

Just switch to another class. At some point you will want CNJ leveled anyway. Just consider it partially out of the way. And I don't consider having Cure, Raise nor Protect worthless cross class skills. All my other classes have Cure equipped and I use it for emergency heals when I solo. I also often have Raise equipped so I can Raise dead PCs I come across. I've even had to toss out a couple emergency Cures in low level dungeons. It comes in handy. You can never have too many skills at your disposal in this game.

Agreed with Naberrie. Also, protect is far from worthless from any class. Damage reduction is always welcome. It's ofcourse not as great as if you were a Cnj, but reducing damage is never worthless.

Also with cure - I agree but also disagree. Cure is helpful because healing. If you're at 50 health and the mob you're fighting is at half health, you're probably not going to be able to kill him before he kills you. However with a few Cures, you may be able to heal yourself up a bit and kill him. It's all situational.

Also remember role abilities. Cnj abilities (aside from protect) should mainly be used as offskills. You probably wouldn't use gladiator abilities as a conjurer, would you? Likewise you wouldn't use Thaumaturge abilities as a gladiator. Can they be useful? Of course - but like a Cnj, it's situational.

As someone who decided to change from CNJ to ACN at lvl 20, I have to tell you that it can be difficult to switch. Hopefully you left enough quests so you're not fate-grinding or dungeon-grinding all the way up.

That said, it is much easier to reach lvl 13 (or 15 if you have to travel) than it is 20. You can easily reach lvl 10 using the 50% exp boost from leveling a higher class and just using hunting logs. You may have to run 3 or 4 FATES, along with class quests, but that is hardly a chore. Use your CNJ abilities to minimize downtime so you can pile on the chain exp bonuses. After that, your hunting log and questing will help you reach lvl13/15 again relatively quickly. The biggest hurdle will be figuring out how to get to the class npc you want to play.

Thanks for all the info guys/gals

Reached level 15 last night, but not done the level 15 CNJ story quest yet so still can't leave. Will get that done tonight (at work, grrr lol). Now I have a conundrum... I enjoyed the last couple of story quests so much I kind of don't want to miss out on the rest, but I definitely will not be good as a group healer. I wanted to try it but I've proven to myself that I'm crap. So I have to change, but not sure what to yet. I do love fast melee attacks much more than casting.

So level Lancer and continue on with that. It's not a CNJ story quest, it's just a story quest. Level Lancer to 15 and pick up the storyline with it. Even if you've mined out all the side quests there's still the Hunting Log and levequests, and, of course, FATEs.
