Hmm, welsper let me ask you a question, and i'm not a programmer but I know that it is feasible to manipulate chat functions, in dungeons through Duty Finder you can't even use the private message option for example. Would it be out of line to think that if gold spammers became something more monstrous due to implementing systems which make crafters more necessary, that they could just create a function within the general shout chat in which if you are spamming any message over and over or just producing content in the shout chat quicker than say 30 seconds at a time after the last time you pressed enter that your function to use shout just gets blocked for a day or something?

**edit** after re reading what i posted i realized even if you managed to stop them from advertising themselves with shout they could still just private message you an invitation to purchase gold from them huh?

If the game will not rely on crafters then it is another poorly made WoW Clone. Sorry but aside from crafting this game offers nothing more then WoW really. I was bored with WoW and came here to play as a crafter (Hey its different class not a side skill like in WoW). I won't pay sub after free month is over and won't resub until crafting is meaningful. For other things I might just return to WoW :/

Pretty much, yeah LOL. And that's kinda what they're doing now anyway. Evident not just be our own personal experiences, but even confirmed by the CMs on the boards. There is also the possibility that people could lock themselves out the the /shout chat unintentionally. There can be some meaningful, or at the very least humorous, conversations going on in /shout. No reason to discourage it. Although, yes, I realize that same argument could be used for the forums.

[tangent] The difference though is that the forums is a place you go to to read or chat... when you're on the game however, you're not limited to just that lol. As a result, forums kinda have a way of forcing people to pay attention to the bad, without much of a way around it. [/endtangent]

But the problem isn't really the advertising increasing or whatnot, it's the domination/manipulation of endgame content by RMT. It's happened before in other games (particularly FFXI), and REQUIRES intervening by the devs, should it ever get to that point.

Alright, since people are complaining about RMT/gil farmers, how about the company actually hires people to get rid of them? This is 2013, we are paying $13/month, we should be getting a service worth paying for, and not have to deal with RMT/hackers/gil farmers. WOW and GW2(free to play) no longer have RMT or gil farmer problems.

A game shouldn't be designed in a way, or afraid to be designed in a way just because of past bad experiences with awful support from the devs/GM's(FFXI), a game should be what it wants to be, and hire anti-RMT task forces and actual GM's to deal with problems. I'm sick of all this anti-RMT crap in this game because SE is literally scared crapless of RMT infecting their game.

I want the game to be the best it can be, and not be downgraded just because they're too cheap to pay people to monitor and protect their game. Should I not buy a computer because I might get a virus/hacked? No, I install anti-virus and protect my computer properly. Should I not play FF14 because I might be hacked? No, I don't go to shady websites, I use a 1 time password, and I make a real password.

Good craft gear won't do anything about gold sellers. Right now I can pay let's say a milion gil and many good FC will boost me for relice weapons or even Coil (normal server). There is always something to buy for gil and good gear won't change a thing.

Totally agree right now the amount of RMT spam and lack of speed addressing it makes it look like a free to play game, SE need to step up the customer support seeing as we are actually paying for this game.

Enough with the short sighted RMT measured, employ some actual people to combat this and knock it on the head quick smart.

    Your design just adds gates.

Gated content based on time/tedium is one of the worst designs you can possibly create as a developer. Players can always improve their game play against difficult encounters. Players can't obtain more free time.

    Back to the drawing board.

I see a whole lot of hyperbole in this thread...

The idea is that there are different ways to play the game for different people, some dislike the dungeon concept but enjoy the crafting (Yes, there are those who have multiple capped crafting jobs, yet only 30 and below fighting jobs) and then there is the more common place that don't like crafting but enjoy doing dungeons and content in that method.
You can not expect your idea or what you feel is "right" to speak for everyone in the game, at best maybe a group but unless it is a united choice and doesn't impact the freedoms the game provides, the devs who build the world may one day implement it.
However, this idea breaks the notion of doing what what you want because you enjoy it and force everything into a tube that makes all of its stops. Because it does this, neither side will be happy and will more likely than not anger players rather than improve.
The end result is, it will be ignored. Plain and simple.
I'm all for improving the game but I don't think this idea is out of the oven and too imposing, Kudos for trying though.
