Hmm, welsper let me ask you a question, and i'm not a programmer but I know that it is feasible to manipulate chat functions, in dungeons through Duty Finder you can't even use the private message option for example. Would it be out of line to think that if gold spammers became something more monstrous due to implementing systems which make crafters more necessary, that they could just create a function within the general shout chat in which if you are spamming any message over and over or just producing content in the shout chat quicker than say 30 seconds at a time after the last time you pressed enter that your function to use shout just gets blocked for a day or something?

**edit** after re reading what i posted i realized even if you managed to stop them from advertising themselves with shout they could still just private message you an invitation to purchase gold from them huh?

Pretty much, yeah LOL. And that's kinda what they're doing now anyway. Evident not just be our own personal experiences, but even confirmed by the CMs on the boards. There is also the possibility that people could lock themselves out the the /shout chat unintentionally. There can be some meaningful, or at the very least humorous, conversations going on in /shout. No reason to discourage it. Although, yes, I realize that same argument could be used for the forums.

[tangent] The difference though is that the forums is a place you go to to read or chat... when you're on the game however, you're not limited to just that lol. As a result, forums kinda have a way of forcing people to pay attention to the bad, without much of a way around it. [/endtangent]

But the problem isn't really the advertising increasing or whatnot, it's the domination/manipulation of endgame content by RMT. It's happened before in other games (particularly FFXI), and REQUIRES intervening by the devs, should it ever get to that point.
