Odd Egi damage

So I'm hoping someone can explain this to me because I sure don't honestly understand what I'm seeing. I'm a level 50 summoner and I decided to see just how much more damage Ifrit-egi's burning slash did in comparison with Garuda-egi's basic attack.

Now Ifrit-egi's Burning slash has a potency of 120 and for me in my gear hits normally around 107 damage.

Now as for Garuda-Egi's basic attack it has a potency of only 100, 20 less then Ifrit-egi's yet for some reason it was hitting normally around 154 damage almost 50 damage more then ifrit-egi even with a lower potency.

Now I might be missing something here...but that does not make any sense to me and the only thing I could come up with this is that since Ifrit-egi is an attacker tpye it goes of my physical damage and not my magic potency like Garuda-egi does who is a caster type, and if this is the case...why? Summoners are caster's by nature so why should one of their pets go off their terrible physical damage state.

Perhaps the enemy you were fighting has more Physical Defence than Magical Defence which is usually the case.

See I thought that to so I tried it out on different enemies even going to level like 1 and 3 enemies with much lower resistances and such and same outcome.

I think I tried it out on about 10 15 different monsters all coming out to the same.
