Please note that after this fight, during a cutscene, you hear the Opening Theme to Final Fantasy. If youhad played any of the other final fantasy games, specifically Final Fantasy (FFI), you would understand that this is the END OF THE PROLOGUE!!! This was supposed to be easily beatable after a comparatively short time playing. You didn't beat the game, you finished the opening quest.
Lodestone is slow to load. I have two 50 Jobs, one battleclass but two "50s." Also, irrelevant.

Also, pointless about the gearing issue. My first time in Praetorium, I didn't even have my Temple Cyclas as a Monk (hadn't finished the 50 Monk quest) and by the time the cutscene after Ultima phase 2 was over, Lahabrea was half dead; for my sister, who was a healer in that run, he was 75% dead (she took a few more moments longer than me to finish) and when she came out she didn't even have to heal. She was only wearing AF and no DL. This was a week ago, and most people in that run only had a few pieces of DL trinkets, none had DL body gear, especially the tanks. Something to consider?

None of what I did was bragging. I do not enjoy fights I do not have to work at; I do not like dungeon encounters that do not feel challenging as I find little reason to go back -- and I like going back to Praetorium for the fights and the music. You may think I am a braggart, but you are finding fault where none lies for the sake of ego. Perhaps you should pull the mote from your own eye before pulling the plank from mine?

You get the idea - In XI every story arc had a beginning. middle and end - Most MMOs have "no final boss" because they make it apparent the storylines don't matter.

Guessing VII was your first FF game like many.
Exactly, but We haven't got to the final boss of Vanilla, Lahabrea is just a stepping stone, probably minion of the final boss, or like typical FF he just gets more powerful as Vanilla story progresses we don't know we just started. Plus the fact that the Extra scene at end of Credits definately account that there is more shit to go down... and very soon... me and a friend both went "OMG O.O" lol I wasn't not expecting such a large number XD

Lahabrea is has always been a joke. He has an "evil laugh" for pete's sake, and he does it alone, and without very good reason. You shoot torpedo people at him at the ending.

That character is nothing but a joke. Also all the crystal cutscenes are corny and cheap. Other than that I loved the main plot.

But I guess that isn't related to the fight haha

you did understand that the story so far is a prologue?
we did beat the empire, for now and we did taste a bit of lahabrea power through thancred... the fact that at the end we did seen soo many ascian only means one thing... we are screw dude, lahabrea didn't fight us directly, and he was alone.... what will happend when him lieutenant and soldier will begin to attack us?

the though is scary in a way...
just to recall, each patch (2.1, 2.2, 2.3,...) will continue the story, then for now we did begin the new astral era and.... well you have seen the video at the end.... we are screw dude, we are screw!!

Lahbrea was a plot device, nothing more. He's no better than trash. I would say working as intended. As said earlier, Ultima is the current 'final boss'.

In other words: Ultima Weapon is the final boss, Lahabrea is a scripted, nearly impossible to lose battle to wrap up the story. It's the equivalent of watching a cutscene where your group banishes evil once and for all, except you play it out.

Run Praetorium again and pay attention to your buffs once you reach Lahabrea.
This so much. It's an "event" fight where people can just chill and blast him to oblivion. It happens a lot of jRPGs and was a really nice and surprising addition/homage.
