If after everything that has been said already you still have problems with that last fight and you care about the story, just remember that Lahabrea was inside Thancred and he was probably resisting and giving the first one troubles to release his full power while fighting with you. He's your friend (or your family, as Minfilia says), after all, specially if you come from Ul'dah. Also, if I remember well, we weren't the ones who ended that fight, but Hydaelyn (through us, in that 1vs1 attack), so it could even be that Lahabrea was just playing with us up to that point.

Someone has never played FFVII. Or X. Or Wild Arms 2. Or Lunar 2. Or a lot other RPGs where there's an extra battle after the actual final boss to wrap up the story, generally involving some special ability awakened in the player party that can destroy the boss. In other words: Ultima Weapon is the final boss, Lahabrea is a scripted, nearly impossible to lose battle to wrap up the story. It's the equivalent of watching a cutscene where your group banishes evil once and for all, except you play it out.

Run Praetorium again and pay attention to your buffs once you reach Lahabrea.

Labhrea current form is not ARR final boss he is the first miniboss in the ARR story ark. A minion to the one true god Z------- plus its an mmo there is no final boss expecially at launch.

This is a FF MMO, if they did it right like FFXI it would be:

1. Final Boss for Vanilla
2. Final Boss for expansion story#1
3. Final Boss for expansion story #2
4. Final Boss for expansion story #3
5. Final Boss for expansion story #4...

You get the idea - In XI every story arc had a beginning. middle and end - Most MMOs have "no final boss" because they make it apparent the storylines don't matter.

I think the idea of the fight was to beat him easily, for starters you don't actually kill him, the crystals banish lahabrea spirit from thancred, you can see him at the end cutscene still alive. Secondly it pretty much sets an opening for the next part of the story, you've defeated the galnean's weapon yet there has still been this threat that has been lingering behind the primals and galneans.

You defeated Lahabrea, an ascian stuck in the exponentially weak shell of*thancred (who is still powerfull enough to not be defeated without more than a few warriors of light there).

I was extreamly satisfied with the ending, and the view of Zodiark at the end makes me wonder if the game isn't going in the direction of the original FFs ultimate struggle: Cosmos (hydaelyn) vs Chaos (zodiark); and we (like the ascians) are pawns in that struggle.

Hahaha nope. I played them all staring from FF I which was my very first RPG when I got my NES.
Maybe not all finally fantasy's got and super easy boss like Sephiroth v/s Cloud in FF7 , but after that point it became sort of cliche to JRPGs having a pre-scripted last boss fight were you unleashed some sort of super-ultra-mega power to finish the "last boss" to show you and make you feel you became super powerful.

I also finished that fight last night and yes, it felt anticlimactic (why the hell is there an additional c in this word @_@). Though at the same time kinda fitting, since the "big guy" is usually not someone especially strong, but scheming. If you choose your allies well, you won't have to fight yourself. And in case you happen to lose all of them... eh, try to cover it up with big talk. Maybe a bit cliche, I don't know.

Hes a joke because hes part of the story of XIV. Save the stupidly placed story quests within winding coils, story is meant to be doable casually by all. I'm pretty sure he along with the black wolf and ultima weapon will be added as hard mode fights.

I don't wanna spoil it outright, I'll just say, watch those cutscenes again and think of the circumstances of that fight, was his purpose for him to kill you or was it something else. Think about the way the environment looked at that time and the way he acted when engaging the players.
