    Fishing/Bait Help

    Hi all,

I just got my Fishing to level 30 and I've yet to see any real pattern to catching fish. It seems that a lure and a live bait of appropriate level will catch pretty much all fish in a particular area, with mooch + double mooch pulling in the rarer ones.

For example, if I need to catch HQ Dark Sleeper, I go to Quarry Mill and just fish randomly for half an hour. Equally, at Costa del Sol, I caught something like five individual fish in five attempts using the Spoonworm.

Is there any way to improve the chances of catching a particular fish - other than going to an area where it lives?

Also, how much of an effect does adding perception have on catching HQ fish? For example, can you get into a position where you have something like a 1 in 5 chance? I'm currently closer to 1 in 10, sometimes lower.

That's obviously not a bad figure, but if you only want one of about seven fish, it can take forever.

    Thanks for the help!

You definitely see different catch rates with different baits. Some fish won't even show up at all for certain baits. It's up to you to figure out which ones work for which fish. Some places are just worse than others and you get a large variety of fish off one bait, like in Costa del Sol.

As far as perception goes I am using the Level 50 Fisher set and at lower level nodes I get a fair amount of HQ's. I'd imagine it caps around 15% like the other gathering classes.

It's this vast range that's frustrating. There's no real incentive to work out which baits are relevant to which fish, as you can generally catch everything nearby with just the bait sold in the area.

For example, at Costa del Sol, you can catch Angelfish, Blowfish, Blanaq Bream, Indigo Herring, Ash Tuna, and Fullmoon Sardine with Spoonworms. That means that the three fish you can't catch are probably mooched, double-mooched, and/or need a higher/different bait. If you add in the lure of the same level, you've likely conquered that particular area.

I'm speculating a bit, but you see what I mean?

This one helped me a lot: http://www.disciplesoftheland.com/fo...g=posts&t=1172

Generally speaking, if you know the level of the water source, you can catch a lot of fish with the bait or lure of the same level (it's often sold nearby).

It is an annoying problem that has lingered since 1.0 and really only rears its head when you want specific fish.

Your Costa del Sol example is perfect. Spoon worms seem like the best bait to catch Fullmoon Sardines but as you showed, get you a bunch of other fish as well which is really stupid considering all the other gathering classes don't have to deal with random stuff being pulled up anymore.
