Just so you guys do know ive found that the game is poorly optimised in some zones heres an example

In zone x my CPU usage is 60% over all cores my GPU usage is 99% my FPS is around 100FPS

    Now this the problem

In zone Y my cpu usage is 40% over all cores or 90% on one core my gpu usage is down to around 40% my fps drops to 30FPS

Looking at this SE needs todo some heavy optimisation with the game and once these issues are fixed work with Nvidia to get a good driver out.

Good to hear since despite all the complaining, i've actually enjoyed using windows 8, of course i also use classic shell to go straight to desktop and get my button back, but other than that it's been running seamlessly for me.

Though, maybe you could help me figure something out. In your 8, is your desktop locked? My desktop for some reason requires UAC authorization for anything to be created on it, as such I can't use the Send To function to create shortcuts on the desktop, any ideas?

no error ever with Win8 Pro 64bit or Win8.1 Pro 64bit launcher runs as default admin mode

After seeing the link to your system you have been sold a mini ITX system.
Hey Reaper, your right it is a mini ITX... I actually hadn't opened the box to check until I needed to in this forum... I know they are more suited for home theatre systems (which I also use it for), but will it do any damage if I put a bigger graphics card and power supply on it for now? If not, I will probably take the power supply and graphics card and use them in a new tower somewhere in the next few months, and just use them on this mobo for now...

The error I am getting is: FFXIV Launcher Error - Unable to complete version update [11035][30426] ... no idea why, just one day windows said their was a compatibility issue with it, it tried to fix it and have been getting the error message ever since... Like I said - at the moment I bypass it by running the launcher as an admin.

Nope I don't have this issue I just checked right now I would say maybe something's messed up somewhere I've had bad installs of 8 a few times.

Possibly classic shell is the issue I just use vanilla Win8 or 8.1 as intended by MS try removing classic shell

However, your mobo doesn't really have the slots needed to run 2 cards so the 800w purchase would be for this, and your next tower if and when you build another one.

Gonzo is talking about the GTX 660 and it is a great card, you will have little to zero issues running any recent game on that.
Great thanks again Radunas, think that is what I will work on - a 800w PSU & the GTX660 - then I will transfer them to a new tower when I build ... As long as this wont cause any damage to the mobo (being a mini ITX system)

haha... I talked him down to $1,400 if thats any better lol... I know its bad I usually go for custom builds but I was playing it on ps3 and it was shit, my old pc was like 8-9 years old and I just wanted a quick fix....coming back to bite me now...

Try reinstalling the game via the downloader I noticed recently the installer/downloader change from pre launch try this if you have a fast connection on a good fibre connection game takes 10min to download.

What do you mean via the downloader? I have tried to reinstall from disc and redownloaded the updates required, but didn't seem to make a difference ... I did keep all my system settings though, maybe it's something that's in there which is causing it

Nope, should be all good to go there.

ouch not really haha. Sorry man.. give someone who knows what they are doing a $1,400 budget at newegg.com and your jaw would drop. I spent my tax refund (800 or less, i forgot) on my tower which has:

MSI 990FXA-GD80 mobo, AMD FX-4170 Quad CPU, 800W PSU, 16GB RAM @ 1866, ASUS GTX 550ti, 1TB HD, and it eats up most things I throw at it.

The way I built it, I plan on getting the latest and greatest AMD proc when I upgrade it (most likely 8 core+), 2 high end nvidia cards in SLI, water cooling, 32GB RAM, moar Terabytes of storage and definitely some SSD action for my OS and some games.

If you're going for SLI, just buy the largest PSU you can get. I went from 750w to 1000w, even though I only use a single mid-range card. You're not wasting money or energy as long as it's a 80+ gold rating. The stuff that comes in HP's and Dell's are extremely cheap and usually noisy underpowered things that die if you try to put any video card or cpu more powerful in it than what came with.

And it is the GTX, i don't even think the use GT past the 630, but i may be wrong. You always want to look for the GTX. (for the most part)
It's a known fact that Video Card manufactures have been purposely putting more ram on cheaper parts because RAM is currently cheap AND people don't pay attention. On the CPU side, more RAM is always better, but beyond a certain point you don't get greatly diminished returns. On the GPU side, different values of parts have 1/4 or 1/2 the memory bus as their top tier model, so a cheap part with 4GB and an expensive part with 4GB, the cheap part will still be 25% as slow just due to the bandwidth bottleneck.

What you'll usually see is that nVidia and AMD have several price points, of which the top part is usually 600$, and a PSU will not have adequete power to run two of them. My configuration with the PSU calculator says 400w is sufficient. If I switch to the top end AMD video part, now it's 700w.
