Whats wrong with my fps??? Someone please help!!!

Hey guys this is seriously doing my head in!!

I have a relatively new pc which I am running FFXIV on, but for some reason I cannot seem to get the game to run at any higher than 29fps - and that's by putting it on the lowest possible res, disabling (or putting on the lowest quality) practically every setting available and hiding in a corner where there is practically no activity other than some swaying trees!!

No matter how many changes I make, it doesn't seem to wanna change from ~15-20fps.... I really cannot understand why.

What makes it even more frustrating is I have read forum after forum of people running specs worse than mine and complaining about not being able to get more than 40fps!!

Please please PLEASE someone tell me what I am doing wrong!!

    Here's what I'm running:

    Windows 8 (64 bit)
    AMD Quad Core A10 6800K 4.1GHz (Richland)
    12Gb DDR3 Memory
    nVidia GeForce GT630-4GB PCI-E Graphics
The PC is connected to my 65inch Plasma full HD tv via HDMI

If someone could please tell me what fps they think those specs should be running and (if it is higher than what I'm getting) how do I get it...

Sidenote: Recently, I have needed to run the game as an administrator because of some launcher error I have been receiving (running in admin mode is the only way I have managed to bypass the error) - not sure if this would effect the fps or not but thought i'd mention it just in case...

I'm no serious techie but first thing i would try would be to hook it up to a normal compute monitor, run it at that lower resolution and then see what happens

A GeForce 630 is pretty bad. This is much more an issue for XIV since it is heavily GPU reliant.

You should be running at max settings with that, as I run on max all day at 50-70fps depending. It is always a tiny lagged/fps hungry when i first login, but doesn't last long. I used to have your level of fps, but after updating my nvidia drivers (I also run GTX, but a 550Ti), it ran seamlessly. I do not overclock, as i found that before the driver update, OCing made the fps worse. Now, it doesn't really help or hurt it. I still use MSI afterburner to run the fan for the GPU at 80-100% to cool her down. Also maybe try lowering your resolution from 1920/1080 to something still widescreen but a little less than full 1080. I also turn down the shadow quality/range settings, which decides how far away shadows start to be rendered, because that is the biggest fps drain for my setup. Hope this helps.

    edit

Unless you really meant to put "GT" 630 and not GTX, then that would definitely be your bottleneck. Clear that up, and you have your answer.

    Don't be a moron. A 630 is a bad card even compared to a 550.

    http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/vi...rce+GTX+550+Ti

    550 TI = 1,923
    630 = 724

    A 550 Ti has a 265% increase in performance over a 630.

Yea freyar I got that, don't call me a moron, I assumed he mistyped GTX, which I would hope everyone has at least that by now. That is more of a "I wanna watch HD netflix" card. See my revised post where I corrected my assumption before you posted your response. My apologies.

Between families, the Geforce cards have always been comparable across the lines. IE: 550 versus a 650. a 580 versus a 680.

So the latest driver update boosted our 550ti performance too?

Hey guys thanks for your help.

Radunas/Freyar, yes it is a GT630 not a GTX .... but surely I would be able to get better than what I am getting even with that... or is that just wishful thinking on my behalf?

Radunas, thanks for your suggestions... My drivers were the first thing I thought of, so I made sure they were up to date - made no difference...I have never used MSI afterburner, do you think it would help?

Definitely. After frustrating hours of questing with crap FPS on super low settings, I gave up and checked the Nvidia experience software, to which there was an update to both the software suite and driver. Logged back in after a restart, and bam. fixed.

Well, yea that card isn't going to perform as good as the GTX series, check out the link freyar posted to video card benchmark and see what he means.

The MSI afterburner software is for overclockers. I wouldn't recommend getting into that unless you're gonna do the proper research and not blame the software if you burn a hole through your card. BUT, you can use it to control the fan speed on your card, if it supports that function, so I turn it up to run it cooler and thus smoother.
