    Quick fix to latency

So, as I am sure most of you have experienced with fights such as Titan is that Latency is a large issue.

If you lag at ALL, if you are not sitting bellow 100ms than most of the abilities will hit you even if you move out of them.

I would suggest that you add at least a .5 cast time increase to all abilities that bosses due, not just Titan as the latency issue is apparent on a lot of fights like Ogre in Dark Hold with "the peoples elbo".

This would most likely fix the issue that a lot of players are seeing where they are out of it on their screen and on the rocket to the moon but still get hit by it.

Some fights are more forgiving on this as the cast times are a little more relaxed and the only time you die is because you didn't pay attention.

Nothing more rage inducing in this game then being out of the red on your screen and being behind the target and still getting hit by the attack which more often than naught is an instagib.

I run at a consistent 250-300ms and don't get hit by the AoE's...

I imagine if the timings were changed the entire fight would become trivial.

Edit: Fights, not "the entire fight"

Personally I have about 300ms and I find that I'm able to dodge about 70% of the aoes but I do still get hit outside of the aoe circles once in a while.. I used to think it was a skill issue but at this point there have been several times I've been completely out of the circles by a long shot and still get hit. I think this should be a top priority for SE, I read that the servers are only polling for movement every 300ms.. that doesn't seem like a lot but when you have a 300ms average latency already that adds up quick. Most other mmorpgs poll every 50-100ms and I can definitely notice the difference.

it's not the ping that is causing the lags. those are caused by the servers, not the server distance. while connection does play a minor role in this, I have had people in runs with me that OBVIOUSLY had severe lag problems and being from the East coast, and I've played with people from Japan (on the NA servers, mind you) that have claimed they have no lag at all even though they have a 300+ ping.

I personally noticed that I have a lot less issues in dungeons avoiding stuff when I do something during the day (I'm in Europe) than I have when I play in the middle of the night, so my ppppeeeersonal guess would be that it has a little (or a lot) to do with the amount of people playing/using the duty finder. obviously when it's morning/noon for me the majority of America is asleep and the majority of Europe is at work/school, which in turn means less people clogging the duty finder server.

granted this is just all theory-speaking. I generally don't have huge issues but I'm also starting to simply anticipate aoes. if I just somewhat memorize a pattern then I find it easier to just run out of it in time.
I'm quite a way away from Titan hardmode though and I'm glad I made it through normal mode, so I hope by the time I'm 50 this will have stabilised itself

a longer cast time won't be a permanent fix, though. that's more of a bandaid and will also probably make this way too easy for people that don't have any issues.

They need to reduce the polling time. However they need to streamline the coding so that it doesn't add more stress to the hardware. My guess is someone was in a rush to get things going and did some fast and dirty coding that has now evolved with claws and fangs to bite that programmer in the ass.

I run about 115 to 130 ms and never get hit by anything. I know I'm still pretty close to the fictional 100ms 'thresh-hold' but my point is just to show that this thresh-hold may, in fact, be entirely fictional.

No leeching, No PL'ing, just 100% playing the game.

I don't want them to nerf it. I just want the server to recognize that I did avoid the AoE when I do, not hit me with the damage when I left the AoE before the cast bar finished.

    In beta Yoshi said this:
Visually noticeable AoE attacks that you can avoid by moving
Fix the servers, make it so!

Also I did a lot of testing to see if I could find any way to improve it here

Another thing that helps is stopping at the edge of the AOE, don't keep running. I tested this with fraps and if you keep running you can still get hit by the damage. If you stop at the edge of the AOE you don't get hit, with the cast bar at the same place. I assuming that this is because stopping sends a position update to the server. Using an ability also helps but stopping is enough. You can stand right at the edge of the AoE and not take damage, for everything that I could test.

I also noticed there was a short delay recorded by fraps between the cast bar starting and the AoE ground effect appearing. Lowering the graphics settings reduces this delay (!). I am using a Radeon 7870 graphics card and I lowered it from High (Desktop) to Standard (Desktop) with Depth of Field off in both cases. Every bit helps.

Hopefully these things might help in the event that the developers do not fix it. Personally I hope they don't nerf the encounters. All I want is that the server recognizes that I avoided the AoE on my computer, nothing more and nothing less.

Definitely there is latency issue. From what I could tell the boss cast bar reach 30% before it appear on my screen he casting. So some of the fight very hard to dodge cuz i have to be on the dot there no extra time.

Nice to know that you don't have the issues thousands of other players have.

There are a handful of AoEs where if I hesitate for even a quarter of a second, I'll get bit. Titan HM's plumes is one, of course, but the other ones oddly enough are the Magitek Reaper AoEs in Castrum. I can dodge them about 50% of the time if I run forward or are already running, but running sideways or at an angle will get me hit 100% of the time (likely due to running at an angle in Legacy camera mode adding a tiny bit of additional distance due to camera moving with you.)

I think they definitely need to polish some of their AoEs for their 300ms polling. Apparently they tested it on servers right next to their machine or something. :/
