No, just annoyed. If they want to group with me, they need to tell me why. I'm a complete stranger doing my own thing, if I don't know what the invite is for, I am going to move on. Why is that so strange or "mean"?

I don't mind playing with people, and I've gone through dungeons without needing to communicate all that much. But even so, if I could get a simple, "Hello, I need help with a mob, can you help me?" or something to that effect (a beckoning emote will do as well), I wouldn't mind at all being invited, since, you know, I would actually know what the invite is for. Otherwise, I will decline and move on.

I don't know why you're making it sound like this is the worst thing in the world to do. :/

I agree completely. I call this "Ambush Friend-ing" and don't like it. I will automatically decline an ambush request. If you want my help, ASK for it. I'm a nice guy, and I actually enjoy being helpful, but I want to know WHY I should suddenly interrupt my plans to accommodate a stranger.
