    Random Party Invites?

I don't know about you, but having someone randomly invite me to their party (and I've had one individual ask me three times in a row and even followed me around for a little) is a bit of a turn off. Is there some etiquette that I am unaware of because seriously, having someone just invite you to their party because they either helped you, like your design, or whatever the reason may be is seriously annoying and frustrating.

I don't even get a hello! Just suddenly a pop up saying that so and so is inviting me to their party. :/ And it's pretty much always a dude too. Which is doubly annoying and probably a whole other topic for another day. But regardless, has anyone else experienced this? I always decline the invite and, other than the one incident of someone following me, nothing negative has really happened.

Doesn't make it any less annoying.

What were you doing? I do this sometimes when doing Leves and stuff because of a lack of mobs or something, I notice 3 other people trying to kill the same thing so I will shoot blind invites. Usually they accept and we kill everything we need then drop party. I will usually accept blind invites also in case somebody was trying to do /tell and clicked the wrong thing, usually to ask for a raise or something. Never has bothered me, if its totally random after I join I will just drop the party. its just 2 clicks of my time.

Nope, they've all been completely random. The last time this happened, which was about an hour ago, I was fighting a toxic toad for my hunting log, someone helped me out, and then suddenly invited me. I declined and that was that. But the first couple times this happened, I wasn't doing anything at all! Just running to wherever I was headed to for a quest.

ya they probly needed a hand with something and didnt know what else to do other than invite to party. Do you try to communicate at all? or just decline and move on? A lot of people are trying this game as their first mmo...

Then they should ask for help, not just randomly invite someone :/

Besides, I'm using a PS3 for this, it's hard to type things out at the best of times. But it shouldn't be too hard for them to ping me and ask if I could help them out. Otherwise yeah, I'll decline and move on. Sorry?

Also, this is my first MMO as well.

Does not compute. Why would it be any easier for someone else on a PS3 to start communicating than it would be for you?

In general, in most MMOs I've been in, it's considered rude to randomly invite someone to anything (party, guild, whatever). The only time I've seen it happening in FFXIV have been FATEs and when I've been killing hunting log mobs, and I give both of those a pass on being rude. FATEs, I could see, especially for a healer (who actually wants to heal). It's a heck of a lot easier to heal someone in your party than someone outside it, and in the middle of a FATE, there isn't a lot of time to type out pleasantries. Hunting logs do go faster if you're partied with someone who's after the same mob. And if the goal is speed, I don't feel the need to slow the process down myself with chit chat. I'm fine partying up, getting the kills, and dropping group without a word (beyond maybe a hello).

And that's the other side of the coin. For the couple of situations where I can see random invites being acceptable, I also don't see randomly declining, or accepting and then randomly dropping, being any less acceptable. Just not a big deal to me either way.

I've also had someone invite me to a group completely by accident. I don't know how. He's a member of my FC, though, and I recognized the name, so I accepted. It was in the middle of a FATE, so I imagine just random clicking on his part.

Edit: Just to be clear, I'm not trying to say you should accept the invites, or that the burden should be on you to communicate. I'm just saying for a couple specific instances, especially given the difficulty PS3 players without a keyboard have with communication, I see the typical etiquette as being a little different in this game. It's not ideal, but I get it, and I don't have a problem with it.

You just seem like your angry that people want to group with you to play. As far as being on ps3, your going to need to find a way to communicate eventually whether its through emotes or usb keyboard. They are probably also on ps3 and cant type fast, so they invite to make a little more time before your out of their line of sight. I just have not seen anyone attempt to troll by sending out blind invites, assuming these people are just trying to get help.
