Selling stacks of items to the vendor

I've run into this issue where I'm selling items from my inventory and right clicking sometimes sells all the items I've selected and at times, I have to manually select the amount using the + or - buttons.

Has anyone experienced this? Any reason why this is so random? I prefer to right click to sell the item regardless of how many are in the stack.
