American bashing?

You realize what you just said is also a generalization? Majority? how many of the 300 million Americans have you met?

While generalization is as inevitable as it is bad, at least recognize it instead of justifying it.

You misunderstand but then again I wasn't fully clear so I take blame for that. I'm not saying the majority of americans are bad and it's why I talked about bad eggs being vocal. What I mean is this.. most people who are kind or just there to have fun don't speak when around a bunch of strangers. If they do they might offer some helpful advice and if there's some difficulties chances are they'll bare with it. They might offer a joke here and there but what are people likely to remember? The person who was mostly quiet offering some good advice here and there or making a random joke or two to lighten the mood or the guy screaming at everyone resorting to name calling? My point is that American gamers make up most of the gaming population so that we have more bad eggs simply by probability and numbers. These bad eggs are more recognizable due to their comments and how vocal they tend to be.

So I've been noticing lately, that a lot of people are just bashing and generalizing Americans because they only run into the bad ones. Is it normal for people in other countries to generalize? I'm not trying to be rude, but all I hear is that we are self centered, rude and a lot of the time they blame people leaving DF on Americans...
I know a lot of Americans who go out of their way to help, only queing in DF as a tank and doing runs in progress, making free gear for people who need help, I being one of them... My question is why is it that people are generalizing us based on an encounter with someone who's more than likely 12? We don't choose where we are born.

I haven't really come across anyone saying anything about American players. I'm usually much better of a player than the people I play with anyway. Why would anyone think that a person's location has anything to do with their personal skill? I've seen good and bad players from just about all parts of the world in my time playing MMOs.

Some people look to discriminate just because of past experiences. Those people probably ran into a few bad players, made the assumption they were American, then chose that they didn't want to play with players from that region anymore. They're just close-minded imbeciles that can't see beyond their own delusions. To judge an entire region of people based on the outcome of a few experiences is just plain stupidity.

I judge players individually. Their location on the map is of no importance to me.

Well, America is huge compared to some of the other countries that play this game. It's really just a numbers game why I think people generalize Americans as negative. For every one jerk they have we have twenty, for every one nice person they have we have fifteen. Personally I think it's funny how others jump to the conclusions of where people are from and assuming that only the bad comments are Americans. Well funny as in sad funny.

I'm Australian and i'd rather play with American players or Japanese players sometimes.

Whilst I think it's wrong to generalise or stereotype, I find American player's tend to make for better players than Aussies.

Our definition of hardcore gaming is CoD. Nuff said.

People in our country generalize do they not? I'm not sure why you have the expectation that ppl in other countries do not do the same. While cultures may differ widely across the world, at the end of the day we are all still *human*, thus we are prone to the same kinds of folly. We all generalize; it is perfectly normal behavior, and there is not a soul on the planet who is not guilty of it. We *have* to generalize in order for our brains to process and understand the infinite amount of things that goes on around it.
