It's called the United States of America. Some people shorten the name to America. Sure, America can refer to the continents as well. Most people can figure it out from context. Just FYI
Do you regularly hear Canadians and mexicans refer to themselves/called "Americans"? I certainly don't.

Yup they do, also Brazilians, Argentineans, Colombians, Peruvians, and like 30 other countries call themselves Americans....maybe you don't hear them 'cause they say it in Spanish or Portuguese mostly

Actually, I've rarely seen any of those identifying as "americans". Most likely, they will say something like "Latin American", "South American", or just their own nationality. Also, as far as I know, only Argentineans really have issue with people from the USA calling themselves "americans".

Lol...was once Paris, met a hot girl in a pub, started chatting and asked her where she was from, she told me she was American...naturally I assumed she referred to the U.S, so I asked from what state, she told me Columbia, so I wasn't sure if she was talking about D.C. or South Carolina....but no, she actually meant Colombia and then proceed to rant about why I was misinterpreting "American".....will never forget that XDActually, I've rarely seen any of those identifying as "americans". Most likely, they will say something like "Latin American", "South American", or just their own nationality. Also, as far as I know, only Argentineans really have issue with people from the USA calling themselves "americans".

Played both FFXI and FFXIV, JP server (cause there only were JP servers.. lol), NA sever in FFXIV.
NA server were more welcoming and generally nicer experience for myself. Never have I seen JP ONLY* or any other kind of ONLY on my 2.0 server, and most people are quite happy to work with the auto-translator to get things done in DF (my clump of NA/EU servers for DF). I've seen some bad people in DF sure, but everyone else in the group was pretty similar in "wow what a #$@!^, thanks for the group guys- hope to see everyone again~".
*(FFXI (my server experience) filled with Japanese elitism, at least the first years or so, then they lost the #1 spot for things- not sure if they are related but after which it seemed JP ONLY appeared less often)
Now I'm not saying "wow everyone has it wrong, NA/EU servers are way nicer than JP servers". I'm saying those threads are usually going to be a weeabo puff puff pass convention, where what you described is exactly what they do- fixated and probably hopeless bias like ones of politics and religion.
Or even Japanese. . XD

We brazillians deal with this on every game ever since Ragnarok Online, perhaps even earlier. Enjoy being the scapegoat for once lol.

AWwww you poor American's, I am sure you will get over it.

Lol that's an awesome sig man..
Its no secret Americans are vocal, we say what we think and every one of us feels our opinions should matter. That's how we were raised though, to speak our minds and not hold back because of how others might react, I think with all the PC stuff going on in this country we have forgotten this somewhat, and are slowly becoming a very timid and silent nation.
We may be vocal, and sometimes annoying, but we are like this because we were told as children we have a right to our own belief's. That we should never be afraid to speak our minds. That comes with a lot of grief from less than mature people, but I wouldn't want it any other way.
