its basically to prevent the many exploits that we had in ffxi, log off your hate, come back, the new exploit of changing skills mid combat and the old of gear swapping. the only solution i can think of is if it doesnt actually kick players when they get dced in a party, and puts them in a standby state where they can still die, get hit etc, but i dont really know if the whole log in and etc mechanic would support that
yah basically to prevent exploits such as that. i just hope when instanced dungeons come in they remove this and just limit the amount of people each instance can hold so if someone does DC u can invite them back
no what's funny is you have a conversation about cannot joining a party while in combat and somehow this turns into an omg i love xi thread. back on topic please.
trying to kill the mob is what everyone is trying to do. we mentioned specific instances in which someone dc or accidentally forgets to touch the node and returns to another location directly affects your ability to do just that.
instance 1. we are fighting the great buffalo with 5 mele and 1 mage...the mage got too close and got hit by the aoe. we could easily let them return to node and come back and temp heal ourselves til they return, but the forgot to hit the node so ported back to uldah. why can the mage not port back to the party that is already engaged with a notorious monster?
instance 2. we are fighting uraeus we have husband and wife in party and their net glitches during the fight they are gone a few seconds and then get right back in game, but it kicked them from party. why can the 2 that had been fighting the mob for 15 minutes not get back into the party?
in my suggestion earlier i did not say let anyone new into the party. i stated allow the people that were already in your party back in your party or allowing them to warp back because they made a simple mistake. i used both of those instances because i have been in parties in which this has happened.

I think changing skill/role while in combat allow many strategy into game. Just like FF13 role changing, which is good in my opinion.

the only time i really feel you should be allowed to change skill/role in combat is if the party engages and you are a dol or doh you should be able to change once to a dom or dow.

I would be hesitant on changing classes during the fight. Fighting a mob tank dies => dd changes to tank => tank unweakens gets hate back => dd changes back to dd.
sorta would make things really easy if you could just cover for who died, I sorta like the cannot change class while engaged. Ability's you can change as long as you are not engaged so I see nothing wrong there. It would be a nice thing with armory system, but there would have to be a horrible penalty to stats after a switch for it not to be abused, like all dmg delt halved, cures halved, and dmg taken doubled for 3mins.
I sorta hate the cannot disband or join when engaged I know why it is there but it is still annoying. The instances where people forget to save the node on a nm fight or someone dcs in a big fight has happened to my linkshell multiple times.

Don't see why you would want to impose this pointless limitation, other than the need to address small exploits (like popping defender on MRD then switching class) I see no game-breaking justification for reducing flexibility.

i personally don't have a problem with it, but i see it caused multiple issues on other games(mainly people are talking about xi). i just felt by adding that exception someone could actually be able to engage in battle instead of standing around for a 20 minute nm battle and not even be able to cast a heal to help cause dol/doh cannot even heal just because they forgot they were repairing someone's armor before porting out.
actually you can change abilities even while engaged to a mob. just go into passive mode in the middle of battle and you can do that just like normal.I would be hesitant on changing classes during the fight. Fighting a mob tank dies => dd changes to tank => tank unweakens gets hate back => dd changes back to dd.

i was not talking about going from pug to gla because the gladiator died. i was referring to going to any battle class from crafting or gathering class. it would be a one time change from a non battle to a battle class, but not change between battle classes. it would be helpful if someone forgot to change main hand tools while setting abilities or doing repairs when someone engaged.

I agree on this point. All it would do is open up a can of worms from both a gameplay perspective and an encounter balance perspective. I'd rather people select what they want to do before starting the fight and going from there.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
As an idea for those who d/c during fights, particularly NM ones or anything instanced based: Perhaps they should allow it so you can save party information/ instance information to the server? So if you do d/c and log back on you are automatically already in the party you were in? (Instanced based events being timed, like guild leves still have their timer, so if you do not log in within the appropriate time, then I guess you would fail.) It would make sense that as long as there is a party leader, that party still exists and your name is on the roster. Also, if the party leader d/cs, someone else is automatically made leader, as it is now, so as long as the whole party doesn't d/c, it still exists.
As for adding members to an already engaged battle, maybe just "Call for help?" sort of thing?
Argument to stupid to get into.
There doesn't need to be a restriction, theres no need for it, there isn't one on XI and never has been and its fine. Sure people log out to reset hate, *** who cares lol.
