Squishy Warrior for no apparent reason

I did Haukke Manor with the Duty Finder last night and the tank in my group was a warrior. He was level 30. He had HQ level 25 gear in most slots and was using defensive buffs when possible. He should not have been needing cure 2 on trash mobs. I am so confused and would love to know if anyone has some reasoning for why he was squishier than every other warrior I have seen.

EDIT:
1) He was definitely a Warrior.
2) I was the healer and he did have protect the entire time.
3) He did indeed have tank gear on and not just general DoW gear.

Just because the gear was HQ and Level 25 does not mean it was meant for tanking. The tanking sets have significantly more defense.

If he WAS wearing tanking gear then I'm not sure what to tell you.

It was tank gear. This person was wearing decent gear for a first time. Obviously he was a warrior, but it was terrible. If I did not have cure 2 and white mage it probably wouldn't have been possible. I just don't get why though.

Maybe he dropped all his points into STR instead of VIT? Some MRDs go that way. Not sure if it would be enough to make a WAR squishy, though. But it's the only thing I can think of.

Maybe, but would it really affect it that much? How many points is it at 30? 20 at most? Even then, its just more HP. It was still disappearing like doughnuts at a fat ass convention.

It makes a huge difference, but he was WAR.

something wrong, war/mrd is awesome 1-50 they suck at endgame not leveling content :/

do you remember the warrior name?
are you sure he is wearing armor for war/pld not drg armor?

I was healer and he had protect and as far as I could tell was using all defensive buffs.

Did he forget to use Defiance?

defiance doesn't really matter imo its just increased health not defense and healing taken increased, i run dungeon without defiance sometimes just for the increased damage :P

Perhaps failing to stun the big AOE the patrolling floaty ladies do as their first move? Failing to get out of AOE in general? Letting mobs hit him from the sides/rear?
