Right this problem is not strictly limited to FFXIV but I have no idea where else I might be able to get help with my issue as Google has not been able to provide me with the answer.
Basically I want my PC to output 5.1 to my surround sound amp. I have tried via HDMI to TV which can pass through the signal to the amp via an Optical Cable and I have tried using the S/Pdif output on the back of my PC directly to my amp using an Optical Cable but still no joy.
When I go to sound in control panel and select either source the only option I have is 2.0 stereo and there is no option for 5.1 and I have no idea how to activate it. I just tried installing something called Realtek HD audio drivers as I was told that might solve it, but it didn't change anything.
These are the specs for my PC and I am sure there must be a way to get 5.1 from it, I have a little Acer Revo downstairs that is plugged into the TV that can manage it through HDMI so was sure this would be able to:
