ah okay! seems simple enough. Now, has anyone done the Archer class? I was debating between it and Lancer when I started, but now I'm leaning more toward Archer. Is it super expensive like in FFXI or is it reasonable to level?

The expense in FFXI was due to having to buy ammo. There's no ammo to buy in this game. You just equip a bow the same way a LNC equips a lance.
Wow, that's an awesome upgrade. So damage I guess depends solely on the bow then instead of bow and various arrows? That's pretty sweet. If I knew that before I would have picked Archer lol! So once I get level 10 and complete the quest for LNC, I just have to buy a bow and I get to be Archer? Or do I have to go unlock their jobs from their guilds as well?

You have to go to the Archers' Guild. Luckily, it's right there in Gridania. No need to buy a bow; they'll give you one.Wow, that's an awesome upgrade. double awesome. Knew I picked right with Gridania XD Is there anywhere I can see what the quests actually entail? (not only class quests, but everything) I have the FFXIV Libra app on my phone and it says who the quest giver is, what the follow-up quests are, and related NPC's, but doesn't say what you actually do. Is there a website for 14 that does? kinda like ffxiclopedia I guess.

Not really sure you need one; when you take a quest it lays everything out pretty clearly, unlike the vague hints you got in FFXI. It'll even clearly mark locations on your map. BTW, while you're exploring other jobs, note that the Conjurers' Guild is *also* in Gridania; that's the main healing class. Unlock it and go to level 2 and you'll have the Cure spell, which is eligible to add to other classes' cross-class action lists. Having Cure on tap is wonderfully handy, especially when you're soloing.

No subjobs, but jobs (advanced versions of classes that you can unlock at level 30) do have a secondary class requirement. For instance, I'm a BRD, which is the job version of ARC. To unlock it I needed a 30 ARC (with the level 30 class quest done) and a level 15 PGL. Then you can get the quest to unlock BRD. BRD is a support / DD job that deals ranged damage and sings songs.
Your duty list, on the right of your screen, will always show your current quests and the next objective. If there's nothing there it means you missed something somewhere.
oh I see, so now you just need 2 classes leveled to 15 to unlock a "advanced job"?

One. I would look here. Pick a job from the sidebar on the left. It will tell you what the requirements are for each job. You need one at 30, another at 15.
Each job can pull from two classes, though only one is actually required.
