Hmm this reminds me of the crystals in FFXI in Valkrum Dunes in which you talk to to get to Lufaise Meadows.

Valkurm has the Swirling Vortexes which were just... swirling green vortexes. You're probably thinking interdimensional portals at the crags which took you to Al'taieu. Though yes, I thought the same exact thing.

There are so many caves in Eorzea they could put a lot of secrets inside if they want... what a pity the most of them are empty.

ahhh yeah been there. theres lots of those all around eorzea. its like they had this grand idea for the game and never followed through
