Purple Aetheryte: What is it?

So i have been exploring lately and just come across the purple atheryte crystal in the coerthas in a cave. What is it for? All it says is "The aetheryte emits a dull light..." when i examine it.

When you examine it you get "The aetheryte emits a dull light...."

Hmm this reminds me of the crystals in FFXI in Valkrum Dunes in which you talk to to get to Lufaise Meadows.

Valkurm has the Swirling Vortexes which were just... swirling green vortexes. You're probably thinking interdimensional portals at the crags which took you to Al'taieu. Though yes, I thought the same exact thing.
