No i completely agree there, I think people had higher expectations from the past themes, especially since Uematsu's music fit perfectly with each game and really established what people think of as far as Final Fantasy goes today. For instance, check out this topic I made awhile ago:

Or better yet, here is the opening post quoted:

Final Fantasy XI suffered this problem as well. I'll admit that some cave or mountain areas are better with just ambient effects, but Uematsu has always made great dungeon themes in the past. It would be criminal to prevent him from making some for XIV. For example:

    The Phantom Forest -

    Awakened Forest - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXphJ9ptZjc

    Devil's Lab - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMK-y8w6YhA
(While there is nothing similar to this in game now, considering Garlean technology, something close would be amazing for a Garlean base/ factory)

    ...and many more.

A few examples from more recent titles such as Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon:

    Ipsilon Mountains - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qwv3tRKu3bM

    Eastern Ruins - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVnly-OASsI

    Cavern - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Fjv6LxB7A0

One of the current dungeons in La Noscea, Mistbeard Cove, does have it's own theme, however the rest of them just have ambient noises...and perhaps could benefit from either having a specific theme, a general theme for most dungeons of a certain type, or a mixture of music for certain sections and ambient noises for deeper sections.

I know there is not a dev tag for this, however, I think adding a few themes to current dungeons as well as keeping this in mind for future dungeons, would go a long way towards bringing that Final Fantasy feel back into Final Fantasy XIV.
And with all the talk of Magitek going around, we'd better get a high tech Garlean dungeon complete with fitting music

Especially since we've practically got an FF dream team as far as artistic style and music goes (Akihiko Yoshida & Nobuo Uematsu ). So hopefully we start seeing both more intricately designed equipment (Yoshida's forte...some of the rank 30 NM drops and the art shown for the black mage and dark knight stuff shows he's still got it) and a wider range of music from Uematsu.

EDIT: With Mistbeard cove, I guess he was sorta going back to Pirates Ahoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1CWWL9UBUk&NR=1

I wish Black Shroud's theme was similar to Awakened Forest from FFIX...especially since the current theme sounds a little too mysterious for an overworld area near town.
