Questions about English speaking players on Tonberry

Hi guys, I'm a brit based in Hong Kong and am pretty hooked on this game, although I'm still pretty much a noob!
Basically, I have been having massive lag issues playing on Gilgamesh server. I didn't mind too much at first, but the higher level I got the more I felt it bothering me. I levelled pugilist to 29 and rerolled as summoner, because i couldn't get out of the red AoE circles in time due to 300+ ping. However, I'm guessing that just because I'm a ranged caster is not going to make me immune to ranged AoE spells later in the game.

What I'm wondering is, whats the english speaking population like on tonberry? Are there lots of players around? I'm thinking of a transfer, or even a fresh start, but I would definitely like some assurance. Things like the duty finder, what's it like being mixed in with non-english speakers? I don't speak a word of japanese but I do love to grind dungeons.

The server population is about 50/50 (you can check this through the lodestone). Learning to play with Japanese players isn't especially difficult through the use of FFXIVapp (google translates in-game chat automatically) and using the in-game translation system, however you can specifically queue for English if you don't mind longer queues.

If you get lower latency to the JP servers it really is a no brainer to play on Tonberry.

That's assuming you can create a character on the Tonberry server. I've been trying to for the past 4 or 5 days everyt time I get home and no luck. If it gets to the end of October I am probably going to pay for a character transfer from Ultros. I'm in the same boat as you, horrible lag and cant get out of red circles.

Aim for the nightowl/morning hours. My friends bought the game after they were convinced and had no problems creating characters during those hours.

im on ridill, a jp legacy server, and there are heaps of eng speaking players.

Lots of Singaporian players on Tonberry. Most of them speak decent English.
