Yes, let us insult Japanese people by stating that they are unable to learn the most important international language for both business and academia.Would you run Coil of Bahamut or Titan hard with someone who can't understand any of your instructions? If you have 7/8 people talking in English, would you be ok to have the 8th member talking only Japanese and either having to translate everything every time (if one of you can speak Japanese) or not being able to explain anything at all?
probably not, and they are the same.
they are just being practical.
Being a foreigner in Japan for almost 4 years now I can assure you it is not a myth unfortunately
And on the other side, if you could read Japanese, you would see that on the Japanese boards they are having the same discussion
most of the post in the topic are about players wishing they could speak english more to play with other players
and important language for academia in Japan? let me laugh! I have Japanese english teachers asking me for advice... and english is not even my first language...
even in my company, my direct boss from the "international team" does not speak english
of course, there are quite a few people who can speak english, the ones who studied abroad or worked abroad. But if you always lived in Japan and have MMORPG as hobby, don't expect to speak english
and please do not take this post as an attack in any way, I am a Japan White Knight. it is my host country by choice. I love the country and its people
But the English education is style far behind what it should be
EDIT: I assumed reading your post that Japanese people HAD to speak english because it is an "international language for both business and academia." which I just do not think is true. But if that is now what you meant sorry sorry ^^
