I'm not a xenophobic person and I actually find Japanese culture very interesting/entertaining; however, my experiences with Japanese players were extremely negative for a large majority of my FFXI "career." It put Japanese people in a very negative light for me for a number of years.

I know that a few bad apples don't necessarily spoil the whole orchard, but at least on my server there was a lot of tension between NA and JP players.

Disciplined would be a better word for it. They can be polite and calm as well, they just happened to be far more disciplined than many other countries.

I think people over-state the rudeness and attitude of PUGs in NA too. I've only rarely encountered rude/obnoxious behaviour, most of the time people manage to stay upbeat and positive (even when we've failed!). People are usually friendly, chat and joke during the runs and by the end you can usually feel like you've gotten to know people and it's a shame you won't see them again.

Of my successful PUG runs, only one had an obnoxious member - A healer who was constantly smack talking the DPS calling them noobs and saying how they didn't have a chance because on the first pull one of them stood in an AoE and took damage; even though at the end of the day both he and the tank died on the final fight and the DPS took down the boss without a tank or healer! (He was rather quiet after that)

Of my failed runs, I havn't had one obnoxious member - I had a guy (The healer... again. Healers are most prone to be dickbags) who went off into a long rant about how the game sucked and he was going to unsubscribe because the game is impossibly hard (Sunken temple normal mode :/ ) and it'd wounded his ego, but that was directed at the devs rather than the players around him

met some nice jp players in my 10+ years of ffxi and some insanely rude, and self centered ones too.
exact same for na/eu as well.

have seen many many shouts for "jp only" for parties in 11, never once though seen, "english only" as a requirement from na/eu shouts.

there is good and bad in every culture, none is superior to another in my books.
there are skilled players in every culture as well, again not one is any "more skilled" at mashing buttons lol, lets face it thats what ALL these games are anyway, it isnt rocket science.

why even talk about different cultures in the game, it shouldnt matter, let alone singled out like this (for good or bad tbh) O.o

Welll... It is obvious that the japanese culture has different standards of communication. And of course there are rude japanese players, but they are the minority. Opposite to Na/eu in which the rude people are the majority. Just different values and priorities. Also,, the % of mental illnesses ( diagnosted and not) is higher in the western communities.

I'm on a JP server, was an awesome choice. It completely suits my style, plus the connection is fantastic for me here in Masamune.
I have all my friends playing with me here and there are plenty of other English speaking players here also.

Being one of the first NA high lvl players back when FFXI released, I had the privilege of grouping with many jp players, as a majority of the people my level at the time were..jp players.

It went a little something like this:

Me: "Looking for exp group, DPS"

Get invite to group.

Group: <something in japanese>

Me: "Hello all!"

Group: "JP ONLY" followed by an immediate kick.

The only thing more annoying than the whiners of the NA community? The one's who worship jp culture and just have to boast about how their JP servers are so much better, even though a majority of the time they're simply looking through rose colored glasses.

90% of my experience with the Duty Finder on an NA server has been positive, I only see spammers in the market zones for the most part. That must mean everyone shares my experience, therefore NA servers are superior! Right?!

This is priceless the way they are attacking the people supporting the Japanese just proves their point... awesome.
these people are not "Toxic" for pointing out that the NA audience is a bunch of rude and obnoxious kids. If your making a big deal out of that statement your a little late to the world stage.... we are generally disliked by other countries because of the attitudes we have. I have resigned myself to the truth that a lot of us are entitled brats. these posts was like watching the opposing side prove the OP's point, awesome thread.
