Playing FFXI for 9 years, I can't tell you how many times I would reach out to JP players only to get "JP ONLY", I would be like we're 5/6 and only need XXX job, You want to wait solo? "JP ONLY"



So yeah... glad to hear they're happy playing JP Only forever now, but Not all JP were like that, and not all NA are bad..
I have my own FC, and we're doing every bit as good, and friendly as it sounds JP is like. There is a culture in NA, (one I hope is gone after the free month) that is "winning best, fastest, first, and solo" at all costs. I do not believe these types of players will make it long, but they are extremely unpleasant shadows of people, and will most likely jump ship to be on ESO or w/e comes next, so I'm just waiting for the day.

This is true. It's true for the Japanese as much as the NA players. When people can both hide behind anonymity and not have to directly see how their words and actions effect people then empathy goes out the window. The point HealBus made really hit's it on the nose. Japanese culture is different and what to the Japanese is rude actually will sometimes seem polite on the surface to a westerner. The culture and language is just that different.

Japanese players can be nasty as well but they do it in the Japanese way. Which is usually kind of passive-aggressive I'd say.

Romanji+Autotranslate? How you do that? Can teach me?

I just mean I'd type in Romanji and then where appropriate I'd use the auto-translate function. So I would type something that looks like: (Flash) wo motto tsukatte kudasai.

I do that because I don't know what the ability Flash is called in Japanese. You can activate it by pressing Tab after you type part of the english word. That said Romanji is SO tiring to read I always use a keyboard that can type Japanese when I can.

We're basically exact opposites in terms of how we manage ourselves in a game like this. The majority of NA players in any given game are the same lot that you'd find in LoL. I'm not naming WoW in this case, because I think LoL fits the bill better by behavior and LoL is well-known to be a horrible community for the most part.

While our majority are that sort of breed, JP minority are of the same caliber. Everyone, everywhere, has the same sort of people amongst them. The difference is the ratios, and this is due to upbringings/culture/etc. Things are just different. NA players are FAR from being saintly, some of us long accepted that. It doesn't matter that NA hosts the most progressive FC, they can be the best... but if it were comprised of a bunch of d-bags, they'd still be d-bags who progress a lot. Apply that to any given group.

Sounds like a grass is greener on the other side of the fence situation. I'd be lying though if the way the OP described their experiences didn't evoke how FFXI sure felt. Honestly it just comes down to the person if they feel like giving a crap on this particular day or not. More often than not though I come to the decision to be courteous and patient with others that I meet online but I also have to realize that I'm coming to that decision as an individual, and by all rights someone can make the opposite choice if they so choose.

There will be care bears there will be try hards and there will be people who are legitimately that extreme in pursuing EG content. For the times I'm met with rudeness or courtesy alike I just let it be and have a good laugh.

They are equally as bad, they are just more secretive about it. NA just wears its thoughts on its sleeves, JP will hide it behind a mask. If you have ever done business in Japan you'll know what I am talking about.

No, they're not secretive about it - you either are or are not a jerk about things. If you have ever done business in any country you'll know what point you were trying to make.

One day I decided to check a JP legacy server to compare the market with my NA/EU server and I was surprised!
most of item prices are almost the same except for HQ items. In Jp servers 2 star items and HQ items cost half the price of the server I am in ><.
I wish if there was a way to buy items for different servers.

Would you run Coil of Bahamut or Titan hard with someone who can't understand any of your instructions? If you have 7/8 people talking in English, would you be ok to have the 8th member talking only Japanese and either having to translate everything every time (if one of you can speak Japanese) or not being able to explain anything at all?

probably not, and they are the same.
they are just being practical.

This is the real reason why NA is always behind JPs cuz we just can't agree. They are trained to agree and reach consensus from birth lol. We NA are every bit as good as anyone else. Lets get some cross server pvp going and put the ownage on EU and JP players NA FTW!!!!!!! New Jersey here!! Englewood!!!!!!!

5/6 People...... for an experience party where everyone knows exactly what to and has Auto Translate.... But nice try on fitting my XI experience with Some JP players for mind numbing exp grind; to the hardest event in FFXIV.


And for the record JP players would join my party occasionally, and we were nice, and they were nice, and everyone had a really nice time! Painting one community as All this and another as ALL that, just creates more "We're better than you" or "you're lesser than us"

The truth is; some JP look down their nose at NA players as complete trash (but would never say so)
And some NA players, act just like the trash that JP players would hate

But there is a core community of this game, and it was in FFXI too where it doesn't matter which country you come from, where being different isn't bad, where everyone is courteous, and it's truly an international experience where you get to make new friends, and that community is somewhere on all servers.

This was the exact same in FFXI, whenever i partied with jp players they were usually more polite and MORE forgiving, They also did that same thing, those magic words nice to meet you and bowed on every invite.

I sometimes wish i could learn JP cause they are far less stressful to deal with then NA players, now don't get me wrong there are some A-Hole jps out there, racist and what not. but they are few.

I really should not be in a community where i have to fear making a mistake due to backlash or getting angry at random, common mistakes. like recent i saw a tank blow up on a healer when it was entirely the tanks fault he died due to basic stupidty (long story)
