If you think that comparing social interactions in gauging whether a culture is "superior" or not as stated by people in this thread is the same as comparing murder to flowers then I am done with this thread. Was my mistake entering with a contrasting view in a thread clearly meant as a circle jerk.
Cant say i totally disagree but what i post earlier on is what i been experience in FFXI for 8yrs and that is the fact for me.. But we cant just compare games and business together as both are 2 different structures..If you think that comparing social interactions in gauging whether a culture is "superior" or not as stated by people in this thread is the same as comparing murder to flowers then I am done with this thread. Was my mistake entering with a contrasting view in a thread clearly meant as a circle jerk.
funny that people, especially US often say that on the internet people will become a jerk due to anonymous, thus the person will always be meaner, asshole-er online, than when they meet people face to face.

This is true. It's true for the Japanese as much as the NA players. When people can both hide behind anonymity and not have to directly see how their words and actions effect people then empathy goes out the window. The point HealBus made really hit's it on the nose. Japanese culture is different and what to the Japanese is rude actually will sometimes seem polite on the surface to a westerner. The culture and language is just that different.
Japanese players can be nasty as well but they do it in the Japanese way. Which is usually kind of passive-aggressive I'd say.
I just mean I'd type in Romanji and then where appropriate I'd use the auto-translate function. So I would type something that looks like: (Flash) wo motto tsukatte kudasai.
I do that because I don't know what the ability Flash is called in Japanese. You can activate it by pressing Tab after you type part of the english word. That said Romanji is SO tiring to read I always use a keyboard that can type Japanese when I can.

No, they're not secretive about it - you either are or are not a jerk about things. If you have ever done business in any country you'll know what point you were trying to make.
I love most Japanese people, they're always so kind and forgiving. It's a shame us Australians aren't the same.
I think it maybe time that I just leave DF on Japanese only,![]()

the Jp community is a nice asian community I had seen (lets not compare to my country comunity, vietnam). But for NA/EU ppl are not from the same country, the other player you interract with may be some "fag" living at other country you never meet so why care ?, I guess this mind set may be the cause the NA/EU are not being nice to each other but ofc not everyone are like that, it is like 5/5 or 6/4 everytime you meet someone you dont know.

Your post really made me miss the international community that was FFXI and FFXIV 1.0. Today, my boyfriend had a party with a JP player (the first since 2.0 launched -- we are on an NA legacy server). He mentioned the person was using "w" a lot and I explained to him that it was the JP equivalent of "lol." These are the little things I picked up over the years. The JP community were always very friendly and helpful. I remember back when I started FFXI... I was a low level WHM. A JP person sent me a tell asking me to join a party in Valkurm. I stumbled in the auto-translator to explain that I didn't know how to get there. I didn't even have a subjob yet... The JP person then explained back to me that he would come to meet me in Tahrongi and escort me there. He brought me on the ship, protected me, and when we made it to Valkurm, he went to switch jobs and meet us (this was before moogles being in Valkurm). This left such an impression on me because it was the first JP party I ever joined. I'll never forget it.
There aren't many JP players on my server. Like I said, I've only seen one. There are, however, a lot of rude players -- either elitists or griefers or just people with nasty attitudes. I can't say for sure that ALL Japanese people are nice, but a lot of them are very polite and this is more of a cultural thing... like OP said, saying certain things is almost like a ritual. JP players seem to be very apologetic when something goes wrong. They don't assign blame. Even if you do something wrong, you won't get screamed at. They will try to explain it for you or give some sort of polite message about how we all tried and it's okay.
My linkshell from 1.0 all decided to go to a JP server... but I am on the East coast of the US and my connection in 1.0 was very bad. I chose to go to the NA server because it was much closer to me. I haven't had any latency problems since coming here, but I really miss playing with people from all around the world.. I'm sure there are a bunch of EU players, but I don't usually see them. I'm much more likely to meet a player from Australia.

there are some nice japanese players, there are also some rude japanese players
there are some nice english speaking players, there are also some rude english speaking players
you never see threads praising the nice english speaking players, yet there's always a japanese love thread
so what exactly is the point of these threads that commend players (most of whom will never probably see this thread as they most likely cannot read it/don't read the english speaking forums) on acting how they already normally should?
