What role does Grand Company have in FC?

You have to be part of a Grand Company when you make a Free Company. What effect does Grand Companies have on FC?

Currently, it only affects where your guild housing will be located (as soon as it is released in the next patch). I know for certain you upgrade your FC at the GC headquarters you are signed under. There is speculation that it may affect some pvp content like battlegrounds when those come out, but only for those players who wish to pvp with their FC group. Other than that, I don't think the GC has a major impact on the FC.
