    Tanking tips for Tangata?

I just ran Halatali as a MRD for the first time (I've always been LNC/DRG before), and I had trouble with the final boss Tangata.

When the boss became invulnerable, I backed out of the fire around it and tried to help with the fire sprites, but that meant I lost hate, and once the boss was vulnerable again, no amount of Flash and Overpower could peel it off our healer.

Am I supposed to stand in the fire and let the healer take care of me? Is there some trick to keeping hate? Any tips would be appreciated.

(We defeated it, but that can't be the way it was intended.)

dds should deal with adds during tangata boss battle.

step out of the fire, but keep aggroing boss by spamming flash (or tomahawk provided you have it.), try to kill any adds that get near you. not exactly sure how to tank using a warrior.

don't exactly remember hatalli, gonna have to run it again later.

Isn't Tangata invulnerable during the phase where Fire Sprites begin spawning? I could've sworn it was. Oo

As for me, just tanked it without any issues of healer aggro. Maybe your healer was overhealing like a maniac, seeing as that also generates threat? Might also help to pop damage/enmity increases on the pull to establish a good lead.

if the little adds start doing the AoE and the healer needs to use medica, I could see threat problems. But they die to pretty much anything, so DPS should kill adds first.

Not much of a trick that I know of... I always had enough agro to go fight the fire sprites and still have agro afterwards. It could be that simply you didn't have enough lead over the healer prior to invul.

Healer healing a lot would do that, or you not building as much hate as I did (your weapon good? Using a good mix of Maim & Skull Sunder?). Were the little fire things blowing up? Not sprites, the smaller ones. If yes, that would force your healer to heal a lot.

As for building agro on an invul target generally speaking, Flash and Provoke (Gladiator cross-class abilities) are the only ones that I can think working. Just because they do no damage. Haven't really tested though.

Thanks for the tips! I'll try to get as much Hate as possible before his first Invuln next time. Since as a MRD, my Flash use is limited, I was careful with it, thinking I should preserve my MP for possible Oh Shit moments.

(And yeah, we had a bunch of the little fire dots explode, I don't know if the DPS just didn't notice them or of they were too slow.)

Why would you even use flash/overpower in that situation... ?

The first time I did it as a GLD, I noticed Provoke and Flash worked on it when it was invulnerable.
Using Cures myself also pulled a little hate, but other damage abilities did nothing (probably because the enmity multiplier had nothing to multiply...)

I've not had any real trouble subsequently though - once you know that the boss is going to go invulnerable at some point in the fight, you can just ramp your hate level up sufficiently high in the initial phase of the fight to carry you through...
